ICCREM 2020: Intelligent Construction and Sustainable Buildings

This paper is based on the new situation and new requirements of China’s construction industry credit supervision. Aiming at the difficulties and shortcomings of credit monitoring in construction enterprises, this paper seeks the combination of credit management theory and risk management theory. We can adopt risk monitoring and evaluation technology to build a construction enterprise credit supervision mechanism model with prevention as the main part and risk management as the core. The concept of credit repair and a series of indicators aimed at the credit evaluation standard of construction enterprises are given, and measures and suggestions are put forward for the supervision of government departments and relevant parties under the background of big data. In order to meet the needs of the whole society and achieve high-quality development, construction enterprises should change from the level of qualification to the level of credit.

The aim of this study is to study the effect of various time dependent data segments on an occupant's environmental sensation and physiological responses in both real environment (in situ) and immersive virtual environment. The study included a series of human subject experiments with 27 participants in a climate chamber. The indoor temperature was varied between 65°F, 75°F, and 85°F. Heart rate, galvanic skin response, skin temperatures of the eight selected body areas were measured in combination with a thermal sensation and comfort survey. The data was divided into four segments based on time, i.e., full data, data of 5 minutes before a temperature change, data of 7 minutes before a temperature change, and data of 10 minutes before a temperature change. Independent sample T-tests were performed between the four segments at each step temperature. Results of this study revealed that once the chamber indoor temperature is stabilized, the quality of measured physiological data are not subject to the time period that the data are extracted for analysis.

Lifting operations of mobile cranes are always based on the experience of operators, leading to low efficiency as well as high accident rate because of the dynamic and complex construction environment. Thus, there is a strong need to develop an appropriate approach to guide the crane operations. In this paper, an improved rapidly-exploring random tree (RRT) algorithm is proposed for the automated lifting path planning of mobile crane. Considering the critical role of nearest neighbor search (NNS) in the implementation of RRT algorithm, an improved strategy consisted of generalized distance method and cell method for searching the nearest neighbor is developed. Both two methods have been tested in simulation-based experiments, with obvious improvements in computing time, number of nodes, and frequency of collision. Therefore, this improved RRT algorithm enables the rapid path planning of mobile cranes in a dynamic and complex construction environment, making it possible to enhance the efficiency and safety in crane lifting practices.

Building information modeling (BIM) has been applied in recent years in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance phases of construction projects. As the technology absorption, technology adoption, and technology diffusion of BIM technology innovation activities require the cooperation of relevant participating units, this paper regards the promotion, and application of BIM technology as a multi-stage (technology adoption, technology absorption, and technology diffusion) and cross-organizational collaborative innovation system to identify the influencing factors of BIM cross-organizational collaborative innovation. First of all, this paper analyzes the connotation of BIM cross-organizational collaborative innovation. Secondly, the literature research is carried out in three stages: technology adoption, technology absorption, and technology diffusion. Thirdly, this paper analyzes the development status of BIM technology from technical standards, legal systems, policies, and applications. Finally, the index system of BIM cross-organizational collaborative innovation influencing factors is constructed.

Adopting building information modeling (BIM) has drastically improved industrial construction processes (e.g., productivity, safety, and quality). Due to intellectual property rights, fast-track processes, and software application compatibility, however, information flow from/to BIM is limited. To increase BIM utilization, the proposed framework incorporates a dynamic data adaptor, structured query language (SQL) functions, and the longest common substring algorithm. With the data adapter, information (including BIM) stored in separated databases can be effectively extracted in real time. The dynamic programming (DP)-based longest common substring algorithm automates information mapping based on auto-detected keywords. Lastly, SQL functions aggregate the desired information from different data sources. A case study of an oil and gas project from Alberta, Canada, demonstrates the capability and applicability of the proposed framework. With the proposed methodology, any commercial or in-house developed project-management database can link to BIM in real time. This research enhances information flow between various database types.

Construction workers’ unsafe behaviors account for a large percentage of occupational injuries in construction industries. These inappropriate behaviors are commonly identified as having high ergonomic risk resulting from awkward postures, repetitive tasks, and excessive manual material handling. To facilitate ergonomic risk identification and the subsequent mitigation, an enhanced version of automated post-3D visualization ergonomic analysis has been developed with the integration of a proposed fuzzy logic-based joint-level ergonomic risk assessment methodology for work modification and workplace design. The proposed method aims to accurately and efficiently assess the construction workers’ behaviors for the development of ergonomic-centric workplace design prior to real-world implementation. It is validated through an experiment involving a lifting task using an optical marker-based motion capture system. With the integrated fuzzy logic method, the results of the enhanced system illustrate a higher level of accuracy and reliability through three levels of comparison and sensitivity analysis. By using the developed method, users can easily and quickly evaluate workers’ behaviors and consequently accomplish their desired ergonomic-centric workplace design to prevent and reduce work-related musculoskeletal disorders in construction.

The highway PPP project has the long construction cycle, large investment, and many risks. Risk management is the key to the success of the project, scientific, reasonable, and accurate risk assessment and prediction in the early stage of the project is an important reference factor for the application of PPP model. In this paper, 24 expressway PPP project risk evaluation samples were obtained by the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method based on the analytic hierarchy process and combining engineering example, 16 of which were used as training sets and 8 samples as test sets. Then the two kinds of sample sets are input into the built PSO-SVM model to get the prediction results. The predicted results are compared with actual values and the predicted results obtained by traditional SVM. It is concluded that the PSO-SVM model is good in integrity and high in accuracy.

According to the research and problems existing in the comprehensive design, this paper constructs a comprehensive design collaborative operation mechanism framework based on the typical industrial park infrastructure projects. It reflects the information and resource flow direction of the comprehensive design model and provides guidance for the infrastructure construction of large-scale parks. Then this paper uses the complex system theory to construct the “B-Z” reaction model and the logistic dynamic analysis model. The dynamic evolution of the comprehensive design collaborative mechanism under the incentive of the owner is studied. Using the data of a typical industrial park, the influence of the incentive strength of the owner on the dynamic evolution of the collaborative mechanism is simulated. The results indicate that there is a clear relationship between the incentive intensity of the owner and the collaborative performance. When the large-scale infrastructure design collaborative mechanism is built, the owner’s support can improve the efficiency of the collaborative mechanism.

Construction site layout is an important activity in on-site construction, which is to allocate appropriate locations for temporary facilities. A reasonable layout can greatly reduce the material handling cost and construction cycle, at the same time, raise the efficiency and utilization of labour and space. While, site layout planning is a complex multi-objective combination optimization problem. To overcome these problems, this paper proposed an approach for designing and optimizing the temporary facilities layout of construction site. First, systematic layout planning (SLP) method is applied to design the construction site layout based on logistics and non-logistics relationships between temporary facilities. After that, establishes a corresponding mathematical model that includes two objectives of flow intensity and adjacent strength according to the SLP method and uses an improved genetic algorithm to solve the optimization problem. Finally, a case study will be utilized to verify the effectiveness of this method.

The investment risk assessment remains a challenge for public-private partnership (PPP) projects under potential risks and complex uncertainties. To address this problem, a least squares support vector machine (LSSVM) based quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (QPSO) method is proposed to evaluate the investment risk assessment for PPP projects in this paper. This method uses quantum theory to observe the particle state optimization to improve the accuracy of assessment results. Applying this method to the investment risk assessment of these PPP projects with 40 PPP projects in Hubei and Zhejiang Province in China. The results show that the maximum relative error and average relative error of this risk assessment are smaller than the traditional PSO-SVM and backpropagation neural network method. Compared with the existing methods of investment risk assessment, this method improves the accuracy and efficiency of risk assessment of PPP projects.

The value of building information modeling (BIM) suffers more and more suspicion in recent years. Architectural experts considered that the return on investment is negative by using BIM software. However, as a carrier, the value of BIM is not only embodied in essential point simulation, collision inspection, and visual presentation, but also deconstruction and reconstruction of information. This paper put forward the model of “BIM + intelligent building”. It integrates BIM technology with cloud computing, big data, internet of things, mobile internet, artificial intelligence, and other technique to make construction sites completely perceptive and real-time connectivity. Finally, this article will solve the value of BIM from five aspects, and give an example of a residential building, to show that only by fully integrating BIM with intelligent construction can demonstrate the value of BIM and accelerate the digital transformation of the construction industry.

In China, prefabricated buildings have recently received strong government support. The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of China plans to make China’s prefabrication ratio reach 30% by 2025. However, China’s construction industry has a relatively low level of informatization. Moreover, prefabricated buildings often involve multiple parties. This has led to lower synergies and higher production costs for prefabricated buildings. In view of this problem, this paper proposes a BIM-based collaborative building information collaboration model, and introduces its application method in the engineering construction process. In this way, the author hopes to improve the informatization of prefabricated buildings and promote the sustainable development of prefabricated buildings in China.

As we all know, tower crane is an important mechanical equipment that is widely used in construction projects. With the continuous expansion of construction scale, only one tower crane can’t satisfy the actual construction requirement, and more tower cranes are needed to work at the same time. This paper focuses on the study of two attached tower cranes that are simultaneously involved in the same building construction, and proposes an optimization algorithm to determine their optimal model combination and optimal placement position, which has achieved the purpose of reducing costs and improving construction efficiency. This algorithm is mainly divided into four parts: (1) According to the tower crane model, component quality, demand point location to determine the feasible layout area. (2) Find the optimal combination by comparing the working efficiency of different tower crane model combinations. (3) Determine the optimal placement position under each model combination. (4) Compare each scenario with a value engineering model and pick the best solution.

This study investigates the residential infill development in the city of Calgary by exploring the different perspectives on the infill development, seeks to provide a developing analyzation methodology. For this propose, the current residential infill development communities and the different infill building categories have been reviewed and summarized. After defined the most common residential infill areas in Calgary, the analysis is conducted on how these bylaw requirements affect the infill building characteristics, what are the possible differences of the site layouts, and the maximum developing area based on the development regulations. This study seeks to find an infill development strategy methodology through in data analyzation for all Calgary infill communities, associated with visualization of building layout, which will benefit both developers and communities.

Intelligent transport system (ITS) is a new development direction of city infrastructure. This paper selects 15 indexes from demand, supply, management, and output. Then, the method of principal component analysis is used to evaluate the urban intelligent transport system of 33 cites, they are divided into four classes by the cluster analysis. Result shows that the output is the best in C of large cities, B, D, and C are better than A of super-large cites. Taking Hangzhou and Qingdao as examples, this paper analyses intelligent transport system five problems from safety, cost, low-carbon, open and share data, and privacy protection. At last, this paper puts forward six suggestions to improve intelligent transport system.

In recent years, bridge construction is more and more common but the incidence of bridge construction safety accidents is also increasing. The risk of bridge construction is associated and superimposed. The coupling of various risks often makes the risk increase. Based on the coupling mechanism of construction project construction risk, the N-K model is used to evaluate the bridge construction safety with the interaction matrix and the coupling of human, material, environment, and management risk. The results show that the evaluation method will help to comprehensively measure the influence degree of various coupling risk factors, comprehensively reflect the safety level of bridge construction projects, and also reflect the rationality and effectiveness of N-K model, thus effectively prevent the occurrence of bridge construction accidents, which can provide a new calculation method and theoretical basis for the safety evaluation of construction projects.

In order to objectively evaluate the safety status of deep foundation pit engineering in disaster environment, a disaster risk assessment model for deep foundation pit engineering based on disaster theory combined with grey clustering is established. Based on hazard factor, bearing body, the disaster-resisting capability, and the characteristics of deep foundation pit engineering, deep foundation pit engineering disaster risk assessment index system was established. On this basis, AHP method and entropy weight method were used to determine the combined weights of evaluation indicators. After using gray clustering to establish a deep foundation pit disaster risk assessment model, and use this model for case analysis, the results are consistent with the actual situation.

Regional railway is an important infrastructure, because it is a popular transportation in modern cities, it is operation safety is highly concerned, in this paper, the factor of the operation risk of urban railway are collected. They are classified into four aspects: personnel, equipments or facilities, environment, and management. An index system for rise assessment is constructed. Based on the structural equation model, the operation safety of an urban railway is evaluated. It turns out that the most sensitive factor is management. The conclusion provides valuable reference of safety control of operation of urban railways.

Lighting electricity contributes 20%–60% to the total electricity consumption of hotel buildings in China, and the use of reasonable lighting sources and intelligent lighting system are always ignored by lighting designers and property management staff. Using a five-star hotel in Wuhan, China, for case study, this study adopted eQuest software tool to simulate the electricity consumption of the building and analyzed its annual and monthly electricity use to identify the electricity reduction potential. Results showed that lighting source selections and reasonable lighting strategy were critical for reducing building lighting electricity use, and should be emphasized in hotel building energy management.

Some have paid attention to study on ages and thermal comfort in recent 10 years. It has been found different results about age and thermal comfort. Some observed a significant but poor correlation, another found no difference, and etc. 2,707 samples was conducted on age and human thermal comfort. The results showed that the thermal comfort voting value was located in comfort (0) and slightly uncomfortable (0.5) for all age groups when the thermal sensation voting value is zero. People over 45 years old had more proportion of comfortable than that below 45 years old in the same environment. The thermal neutral temperature of the group under 45 years old was 20.4°C; and that for the group of 45–59 years old was 20.5°C. 21.2°C, and 22°C for the group of 60–75 years old and 75–89 years old respectively. This helps to provide reference for indoor and outdoor space design.

In recent years, with the rapid development of China’s economy and society, prefabricated buildings in China are also gradually developing. However, due to the immature construction technology and the lack of management experience, many construction safety problems have been exposed during the construction of the prefabricated buildings. Therefore, in this context, how to improve the construction safety of prefabricated buildings has become a worthwhile research. On the basis of reading a large number of papers, combined with the construction characteristics of the existing assembly-type construction projects in China, this paper constructs an index system that affects the safety of prefabricated building construction by means of expert survey, and uses the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method to establish a comprehensive evaluation model. Finally, the main influencing factors affecting the construction safety of the prefabricated building are proposed on the basis of analyzing the results of the hierarchical method, and targeted measures to reduce the occurrence of dangerous accidents are taken.

In recent years, with the increase of population density and the expansion of human economic activities, natural resources have been unscrupulously seized, which leads to great damage to the environment which human beings depend on. Therefore, the occurrence period of sudden disaster events is constantly shortened while the scope of influence is constantly expanded. These natural disasters show the character of high outbreak frequency and great social harm. Besides, these disastrous events not only bring huge economic loss to individuals but also cause great harm to people’s psychology. Nowadays, people pay more attention to the natural disaster events because of the serious harm and far-reaching influence of the sudden disasters. How to early-warning, deal with, control, and reduce the disaster loss as much as possible have become an important issue for all countries around the world. Scientific distribution of limited emergency resources and delivering them in time play an important role in guaranteeing the life safety of victims and improving the effect of rescue. On this basis, we study how to allocate the resources to minimize the disaster loss and how to forecast the saving to achieve the lowest economic cost.

Industrialized house-building companies predefine parameters in platforms. To identify processes platforms the use of work break down structures that support the assembly processes for small house building companies were studied. A case study of the onsite assembly activities were chosen at one small Swedish house builder that offer customization within their products. Based on the assembly processes, a work breakdown structure of the workflow predefinitions was identified for the process that didn’t compromise with product customization. Small companies can predefine elements within the product to simplify the work process on site. The work break down structure becomes a tool to find parts and process that predefine a house building platform. It can also be used for planning, delivery, cost, and resources in an overall view of the project. Because of the importance of planning during projects, together with the possible standardization of the company’s process, the use of a work break down could contribute to increase efficiency for onsite work.

Combining a modular building system for multi-apartment blocks with another building system explores the possibility to construct a ground floor level more suitable for urban environments. Two building systems are conceptually explored and analyzed for this purpose. Solid boards made of cross-laminated timber (CLT) and a post-and-beam framework made of glue laminated timber (GLT). The aim is to determine which of the mentioned structures is the most suitable. CLT and GLT both proves to be practical solutions, each with its own strengths. However, a combination of the two might be optimal.

Alongside the rapid urban development and continuous infrastructure improvements that accompany the urban transformation of contemporary China, the challenges of defining and shaping a distinctive image for a city has attracted considerable interest from many urban planners, property developers, and city administrations. Among the wide range of urban development strategies employed to promote and enhance urbanization, the deployment of artworks in urban space (“public art”) is increasingly visible and widespread. This paper aims to analyse the relationship between public art and urban development in the metropolitan contexts of Beijing and Shanghai, seeking to identify the circumstances that accompany the implementation of public art in mainland Chinese cities. Selected case studies in the business centres of the political capital of Beijing and the economic centre of Shanghai are analysed and used to discuss how strategies of urban development intersect with the implementation of public art projects. The findings reveal a number of ways in which this nexus is configured, and suggest several categories useful for the study of public art in China. The paper aims to contribute to an ongoing discussion of the complexities that attend the implementation of public art within the rapidly transforming Chinese metropolis, and ultimately improve the understanding of the distinctive trajectory of China’s urban development.

The construction of major infrastructure projects is a priority area of the Belt and Road initiative. In view of the specific cultural and political background of the countries along the B&R, Chinese brand of major projects should be built, which is conducive to enhancing Chinese international competitiveness in the field of engineering construction. Based on the project life cycle theory and stakeholder theory, this paper constructs the framework of Chinese brand elements of major projects and provides theoretical support for the construction of Chinese brands. The research conclusion not only provides a reference for establishing a good Chinese brand image, but also facilitates the construction of the Belt and Road.

Increasingly, construction players in developing countries are trying to adopt green building technologies in the construction industry. However, their efforts are challenged by various issues. Their progression deserves academic attention. This study aims to identify barriers affecting the adoption of green building technologies in Malaysia, as one such developing country, from architects’ perspectives. This study adopted the quantitative method. 227 questionnaires were sent online and by hand to professional architects who are registered under Malaysian Institute of Architects. The findings of this study were derived from 52 returned questionnaires. Among 26 barriers affecting the adoption of green building technologies, this study identified 17 as critical. High cost of green technologies; high market prices, rental charges, and long payback period; lack of promotion; lack of interest and market demand; and risks and uncertainties involved in implementing new technologies are top five among those critical barriers. The findings of this study could provide insight to the policy maker who plays an important role in creating a sustainable environment in the construction industry. This study proposes that the policy maker should play an active role in establishing more incentive programs to assist construction players who intend to adopt green building technologies in their projects. Besides, more activities promoting the adoption of green buildings technologies should be initiated by the policy maker through the strategic partnership with construction players such as clients, consultants, and construction firms.

With the advent of information technology, information and knowledge become huge and difficult to deal with. Because of the complex work involved in building products, it is very important to excavate the knowledge related. This paper uses natural language processing and Python programming to realize data preprocessing, Chinese segmentation, and relationship extraction based on co-occurrence principle. Finally, 10 documents from CNKI about building energy conservation are chosen. It is found that building energy conservation is significantly related to the concepts of thermal insulation materials and technology, which proves that natural language processing, can effectively help us to excavate knowledge.

The ultra-low-energy green building, as the development direction of the future building, has greatly changed the current construction industry structure, and has been highly concerned and rapidly promoted by local governments. By analyzing the current problems of energy consumption of green buildings; taking the cold region as an example, using eQUEST to simulate the building energy consumption, it is determined that the energy-saving effect of ultra-low-energy buildings is obvious. In order to ensure the smooth implementation of energy-saving targets for ultra-low-energy green buildings, the energy supply of multi-energy complementary ultra-low-energy buildings and the design and construction of key technical measures are introduced; to ensure energy-saving and consumption reduction for multi-energy complementary green buildings. The fundamental purpose is to establish a monitoring system for ultra-low energy buildings. The construction energy conservation and consumption reduction work will gradually shift from the measure orientation to the effect orientation, and the data will be used to illustrate the substantial content of building energy conservation and consumption reduction.

With the acceleration of China’s urbanization process, the underlying surface and precipitation runoff of the city have changed a lot and caused increasingly serious problems, such as the deterioration of urban water quality and flood disaster. Among them, non-point source pollution caused by storm runoff has become an important cause of urban water environment deterioration. This paper introduces the importance of the low-impact development mode proposed in this context, its design concept and technical means, discusses its application in the field of green infrastructure on the basis of theory, and seeks for its innovation and development in this field. Finally, it is expected to inspire relevant green infrastructure, sustainable drainage research, and other fields.

This study aims to identify and to evaluate the critical success factors (CSFs) for small contractors to conduct sustainable construction projects. To achieve these goals, a comprehensive literature review and pilot interviews with three experienced industry experts were conducted firstly, followed by a questionnaire survey administered to 30 small contractors from the construction industry of Singapore. Results showed that the top ten CSFs for small contractors to implement sustainable construction are “having competent human resources in sustainable construction”, “enacting the green policies established by authorities”, “support of senior management”, “sustainability of organization structure”, “training staff technically and ideologically”, “innovative management approaches”, “relationship with subcontractors or suppliers”, “engaging personnel with knowledge in sustainable construction”, “cost control”, and “personality and capability of project manager”. This study enriches the knowledge of sustainable construction research. It can also help the industry practitioners to enhance their understanding of sustainable construction.

The recycled aggregate concrete modified by waste tire rubber is a recycled aggregate concrete made of rubber powder as admixture. The frost resistance of recycled aggregate concrete is worse than that of ordinary concrete, so the improvement of frost resistance of recycled aggregate concrete by rubber powder is studied in this experiment. According to the percentage of recycled aggregate (25%, 50%, 75%) and rubber powder (0%, 5%, 10%), different combinations of experiments were designed. The freeze-thaw cycle test was carried out by orthogonal method, and the experimental results were analyzed. The effect of aggregate content on frost resistance of recycled concrete was studied. The effect of rubber powder with different proportions on quality loss rate and relative dynamic elastic modulus of elasticity of recycled concrete was studied. The results show that rubber powder can obviously improve the frost resistance of recycled aggregate concrete, and the optimum proportion of rubber powder is obtained.

Nowadays, under the background of rural revitalization strategy, along with the process of new-type urbanization in China, villagers are experiencing role transaction: a shift from agricultural population to urban residents. Urban residents are always community-based, and the new-type rural community for villagers brings challenges of new-type community governance. Therefore, this paper aims to explore the key factors affecting the new-type community governance for its significant role in achieving rural revitalization in China. Firstly, the current situation of new-type rural communities and the problems existing in its governance in China are analyzed. Secondly, to identify the key factors affecting new community governance, the typical cases of community governance in both China and other countries are studied, combining literature review on community governance. Finally, suggestions concerning new-type community governance in China are provided to researchers and practitioners.

In order to objectively evaluate the safety capability of metro construction workers, a safety assessment model for metro construction workers based on set pair analysis (SPA) method is proposed. Firstly, according to the definition of safety capacity and the characteristics of metro construction, the evaluation index system of subway construction personnel safety capability was established. Fuzzy priority planning theory and entropy weight method are combined to determine the index weight. Secondly, according to SPA, the safety capacity evaluation model of metro construction workers was established. Finally, models are used to evaluate the safety capability of several construction workers who randomly selecting in Chengdu Metro Line 11 and the evaluation results were consistent with the actual situation.

Reasonable risk sharing is the key to the successful implementation of PPP project for underground pipe gallery. In order to remedy the deficiency of ignoring the asymmetric status of the government and the private sector in previous research methods, this paper constructs a risk sharing game model of PPP project of underground pipe gallery under the premise of asymmetric status of both parties involved in the project, which is divided into two situations: under the condition of complete information and incomplete information. The best method of risk sharing between the government and the private sector is obtained by solving the model. Finally, the rationality and feasibility of risk sharing game are verified by an example. The research results not only make up for the insufficiency of risk sharing research on PPP project of underground pipe gallery in theory, but also have very important guiding significance for the successful implementation of PPP project of underground pipe gallery.

With the continuous development of urbanization and the implementation of the strategy of rural revitalization, the health, environmental pollution, and quality of life of farmers, such as toilets, have become increasingly prominent. With the long-term deterioration, the living environment of our future generations is worrying. Taking the rural toilet reconstruction as the research object, using the theory of sustainable development, aiming at the problems existing in the process of rural toilet reconstruction in Heilongjiang Province, this paper explores the corresponding solutions, guides the implementation of rural toilet reconstruction, and promotes the improvement of rural ecological environment from the perspectives of planning and layout, top-level design, personnel quality, organization and coordination, and technical research and development of toilet reconstruction, the construction of ecological civilization, and the sustainable development of rural areas.

Rapid urbanization causes serious environmental problems and resources waste, therefore it is essential to plan for the population agglomeration and distribution for the government. This paper developed an optimization model for regional population distribution which includes three parts of rationality evaluation model, contribution degree analysis, and multi-objective programming model. This model provides theoretical support and quantitative technique for the selection of corresponding optimization strategies for sustainable region development.

Severe climate changes significantly increase the exposure of built environment to extreme weather events, such as storms and droughts. Sponge campus, being as a practice of low-impact development (LID), is a site design strategy that uses natural and engineered techniques for storm water collection, infiltration, storage, and utilization to avoid waterlogged campus and enhance water resource efficiency. However, the noise disturbance, dust nuisance, as well as road closure associated with the sponge renovation of existing campuses are likely to cause inconveniences to the daily activities of students and faculties, resulting in resistances to the green endeavor. In this study we conducted a survey at the Central University of Finance and Economics in China and analyzed the perception and acceptance of students and faculties on sponge campus renovation based on the questionnaire results of 332 respondents. The results showed that the majority of respondents were supportive to sponge campus renovations, presenting a high awareness of sustainable development. Compared to the duration of renovation, respondents were more sensitive to the construction noise, road closure, and dust pollutions.

With the concept of green buildings being increasingly promoted, life cycle assessment (LCA) is regarded as a common but vital tool for buildings’ environmental performance evaluation. However, as the current mainstream of industrialized houses in China, the Assembly Building, especially prefabricated concrete (PC) residential building, has encountered specific difficulties in applying LCA such as data inadequacy and extensively repetitive work. Thus, this paper aims to propose a methodology using building information modeling (BIM) to solve the implementation dilemma of LCA for PC residential buildings in China. Based on the 3D model constructed by Revit, tally plug-in with GaBi database is applied as the core software for LCA inventory analysis and environmental impact assessment, while Energy Plus is adopted as an auxiliary tool to simulate the residential operation energy consumption. All the selected soft wares share the same. gbXML file format, thereby ensuring the operability of the coordinated platform. Finally, the superiority of the proposed methodology is demonstrated by a case study.

Urbanization greatly contributes to the industrialization process and economic growth of a country or region, while excessive urbanization harms the development of national economy. Therefore, moderate urbanization and the determination of optimal city scale have been spotlighted. Based on literature review on determining criteria of optimal city scale, this paper concludes that to maximize urban residents’ income is the fundamental criterion for the scale and the level of urbanization in China, which urges make full use of market’s function in allocating resources to fuel the free flow of population and factor of production and to develop a city toward the best scale with maximized residents’ income.

At present, the problems of imbalance between occupation and housing, traffic congestion, and uneven distribution of public services in large and medium-sized cities in China are closely related to urban spatial mismatch. Spatial mismatch has become an interdisciplinary research field of urban economics, sociology, economic geography, and other disciplines. The study of urban space mismatch has expanded from the traditional relationship between work and housing to the supply of public services, and even to the protection of urban resources and government governance. By sorting out the literature on “spatial mismatch” at home and abroad in the past 10 years, the development status of this research field was expounded, and the research contents and methods were summarized. Finally, the research trend in the future was proposed in terms of the research scope, research methods, and research objects.

Based on the usage of instrumental variable estimate and the research sample-Chinese Household Income Project Survey (hereafter referred to as CHIP) 2009, this paper does a research on efficiency of urban residents’ income growth as well as their well-being caused by city scale’s expansion. The results show that, for one thing, city scale plays a driving role in this income growth which demonstrates as an inverted U-shape, for another, the city scale that maximizes the growth falls in the range of 2.8678 million to 2.8945 million in control of individual eigenvector and urban eigenvector. Consequently, the strategy to develop large cities is effective on improving urban residents’ income and well-being.

This paper takes 676 articles published in the CSSCI and CSCD core journals of China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) from 2010 to 2019 as the research object, and conducts statistical analysis and knowledge mapping analysis of prefabricated construction buildings (PCBs) research. The study found that the overall research of PCBs is increasing, but the academic contribution rate of core authors is not very high. The five key words with the strongest strength are industrialized houses, prefabricated piles, residential industrialization, prefabrication, and ductility.

At present, the construction industry is still faced with such prominent problems as large resource consumption, low construction efficiency, and rising labor demand, thus the industrial architecture reappeared in our vision. However, the development of prefabricated buildings in China is still very slow nowadays, one of the main reasons is that in the terms of progress prefabricated buildings compared with the traditional cast-in-place method does not reflect too many advantages. In this paper, a BIM-based schedule control scheme and system architecture are proposed according to the actual requirements of the management of the assembly construction project. Through solving the technical problems such as the association between 3D model and progress information, the interface between application software, the access and modification of progress data, the BIM-based 4D progress control system of the assembled building is realized.

Residential modular integrated construction (RMiC) offers the benefits of speed, economy quality, and mass production in housing delivery. Evidence in some countries have established the feasibility of using RMiC to address the housing shortfalls, but not all initiated RMiC projects have achieved the desired level of success. However, there is limited knowledge of the shared factors contributing to the failure of RMiC projects. This research identified and prioritized the critical failure factors (CFFs) for RMiC projects. Analysis of international survey-based data showed that the top 4 CFFs for RMiC projects include inaccurate engineering specifications and late design freeze; limited fabricator experience and capabilities in modules design and production; poor working collaboration and infrequent communication among project participants; and supply chain disruptions and disturbances. This research constitutes the first exclusive quantitative evaluation and prioritization of the CFFs for RMiC projects and makes a useful contribution to the knowledge of RMiC project management. It may provide decision support to practitioners and form a useful basis for future research.

As a sustainable method of construction with higher productivity, shorter construction period, lower labor costs, and less energy consumption, prefabricated construction buildings (PCBs) has been vigorously promoted in recent years. However, the studies for the government regulation related to the PCBs are still less by now. Based on the analysis of government regulation in the process of prefabricated building promotion by the evolutionary game theory, this paper puts forward some suggestions: the first one is choosing the developers focused on social reputation, brand value, and long-term cooperation opportunities will lower regulation cost for the government; secondly, the developers will earn more profits at where the local governments have problems on credibility and efficiency or have lower administrative pressures; the thirdly, the strategy for governments regulation and incentives is more likely to encourage developers to develop prefabricated buildings as requirements. The research devoted to provide reference for the decision-making of the stakeholders and related research.

Public works has played a significant role in promoting domestic economic growth and improving social service levels. However, from the implementation of past engineering projects, the actual effect of public works management is not satisfactory. Some projects have breakthroughs in investment, lower quality standards, and poor economic or social benefits. There are multi-stakeholders in public works. The government as the owner has a game relationship with the construction unit and the contractor. This paper establishes a game model, analyzes the choice behavior of each subject, finds the equilibrium solution of the game and proposes an effective supervision strategy, helps to ensure the quality of public works, and improves the effectiveness of all parties.

The paper makes bibliometric analysis on the literature published year, distribution of published journals, research institutions, author cooperation, and key words of prefabricated construction buildings (PCBs) research in China by using Cite Space based on the 175 papers published in the CNKI core journals from 2012 to 2018. Through the research, find the domestic influential authors, research institutions, cooperation and research hotspots, and development trend in the field of PCBs, which lays the foundation for further study of PCBs in China’s construction industry.

Complex external environments pose a serious threat to the effective operation of mega infrastructure. Simultaneously, the internal structural complexity and technical complexity also causes instability in the operational process of mega infrastructure systems. In this context, managers need to strengthen the supporting capacity of mega infrastructure systems, thereby improving the performance of mega infrastructure in complex environments. However, previous studies only focused on the performance capacities of infrastructure systems and the relevant capacities of physical systems, little attention is paid to the relevant capacities of the social components. Therefore, this paper constructs a capacity framework of mega infrastructure system based on the relevant capacities of the social systems and the relevant capacities of technical systems, which provides theoretical guidance for addressing operational management issues of mega infrastructure in complex environments.

Guarantee system plays important roles for mega-projects operation management. Based on the combination analysis of previous literature and typical projects, this study summarized the successful experiences of various famous transportation engineering projects in China mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, Europe, America, Japan, and South Korea. These successful experiences were reflected from different aspects, including governance system, strategies and objectives, organizational structure, system files, resources protection, technical support, and evaluation system. Addressing the characteristics of the operation and maintenance of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, this research analyzed various boundary conditions under operational status. The multidimensional guarantee systems of mega-projects operation management were established based on management theory and operation experiences, which contributed to guarantee the smooth shifting of mega-projects from construction to operation.

In Thailand, a PPP arrangement called build-operate-transfer or BOT is commonly employed for large-scale infrastructure projects. The life cycle of BOT arrangement can be divided into three phases: the design phase, the construction phase, and the operation phase. In this paper, the focus is on the construction phase since it appears to be the phase with the highest level of risk. Several studies have also found that many large-scale infrastructure projects experienced a chronic problem of construction delay, some of which even led to contract termination. In a PPP setting, the consequences of construction delay can be more acute and thus worth studying. The objective of this research is therefore to evaluate financial impacts resulting from construction delay. Financial model of a hypothetical BOT infrastructure project will be employed in this study. Risk analysis using Monte Carlo simulation will also be performed in order to identify level of risk exposed by the project sponsor. The results of this study may provide an insight into how construction risk shall be mitigated and managed by both the public sector and the private sector so as to create a fair and robust BOT contract in the future.

Thailand has a long history in welcoming the private sector to participate in the development of large-scale infrastructure projects through a program called public private partnership or PPP. Build-operate-transfer (BOT) and build-transfer-operate (BTO) are two of commonly used PPP contracts for transportation infrastructure, in which the private (or the concessionaire) is responsible for the risks relating to the design, finance, construction, and operation and maintenance (O&M) of the project. As some of PPP transportation infrastructure projects in Thailand are approaching its final year of a concession period, decision as to extend or to end the contract must be made by a contracting agency, that is: (1) to extend the concession contract to the existing concessionaire for a certain period of years or (2) to let the concession expire and to have a responsible public agency assume the operation. This paper is to propose a decision-making model based on a level of risk exposure as a computational tool for comparing between a renewal package offered by the concessionaire and expected benefits generated under the operation by the public agency. A case study project, a BOT elevated road located in Bangkok, will be used to illustrate the application of the proposed model. One of the implications of this study is that the estimated figure computed using the proposed method may be treated as a public sector comparator (PSC), which can be used as an initial benchmark for the negotiation with the existing or a new concessionaire.

Group decision making has been commonplace in construction projects for deliberating ideas among different experts, thereby minimizing their judgmental errors via reasoning with others. Thus, it is important to understand how group members construe a problem and attain consensus on solution. This research investigates the influence of group setting in decision making and thus, how members may fall into the pitfall of group pressure namely groupthink bias. It focuses on procurement committee which is peculiar in large private enterprises or public sector, to understand the groupthink phenomenon, extending to defective decision making in procurement. A research model is developed and tested via structural equation modeling statistical analysis technique. This research found that groupthink may magnify its influence on members of procurement committee though they are operating on stringent procedures. Implication of procurement committee setting is discussed.

With the rapid development of economy, science, and technology, China’s construction industry has entered a new period of development. At the same time, the prefabricated concrete structure (PC) building is still in its early development stage, construction quality standards and safety standards imperfect problems, seriously restricts the development of the PC building. In view of the above problems, first of all, the development history and current situation of China’s building construction quality and safety standards, as well as the framework of building construction quality and safety standard systems are analyzed. Secondly, based on the existing literature research, the applicability of it to prefabricated concrete structures is analyzed. Thirdly, the assessment system of construction quality and safety standards for the suitability of PC building is established, and the assessment analysis is carried out by means of entropy weight and TOPSIS method. Finally, on the basis of the above, this paper makes an empirical analysis of the current building construction quality and safety standards, draws the conclusion of applicability assessment, and puts forward suggestions for the improvement of the standards according to the conclusion.

Complex engineering is highly complex and complexity is an important factor affecting the performance of complex engineering. The “four-stage method” is used to comb the high-cited papers in the field of complex engineering risk management from 2008 to 2018. The research status of complex engineering risk management is summarized from the research method and research content. The results indicate that (1) the research methods of complex engineering risk management can be divided into empirical analysis and data model analysis. Most of the current research use empirical analysis to obtain data, and then modeling to expand data analysis; (2) most research are based on the traditional model of general engineering risk management. However, the impact of complexity, an essential attribute of complex engineering, is not fully reflected. On these bases, it is pointed out that studying risk management from the perspective of complexity is one of the main research trends in the future. The computational experiment method can be used to construct a risk management computing experimental platform through computer technology to study the risk interaction and the emergence of complex system.

Housing security is an important part of China’s social security. In the past 20 years, China’s housing security work has achieved brilliant results. However, there are still problems such as the supply cannot meet the needs of the society, the government’s financial pressure, the difficulty of raising funds for construction, the limitation of government’s operational capacity, and the cultural isolation caused by centralized construction. In order to improve the affordable housing system and overcome the problems under the government construction model, the construction of affordable housing construction involving social capital such as REITs, PPP, and affordable housing which is constructed with commercial housing is proposed. This paper summarizes the three construction modes, analyzes the role and comparative advantages of social capital commitment, and compares the possible risks and risk sharing models, and finally puts forward policy opinions.

Building information modelling (BIM) is a milestone technology that have already transformed the architectural, engineering, and construction industry. Benefits of implementing BIM in rail transit projects can be significant, as rail transit projects involve massive facilities and complex pipeline systems. However, existing research of BIM applications in rail transit area were mainly focus on the design and construction stage, and there is still a lack of work to support BIM-enabled operation and maintenance. As such, this paper presents a study on BIM-enabled operation and maintenance management of rail transit projects, in the context of Chinese industry. The study first reviews previous work on BIM-enabled operation and maintenance, then examines BIM usage and application areas of various stages in Chinese rail transit industry. An operation-oriented framework is also proposed, to facilitate BIM-enabled operation and maintenance management in rail transit projects. Moreover, case study of a pilot rail transit project in Taiyuan, China, with the proposed framework is presented. This study provides valuable insights into the successful BIM implementation in rail transit projects.

As one of the economic centers of China, Shenzhen has played an important role in economic growth. Fixed asset investment has a lagging effect and contemporaneous effect through the formation of capital stock and contemporaneous demand respectively. This paper uses the VAR model and the directed acyclic graph (DAG) to analyze the relationship between fixed asset investment and economic growth of three industries in Shenzhen from 1979 to 2017. The results show that: The fixed asset investment can have a lagging effect on the added value of Shenzhen’s secondary and tertiary industry, but the added value of Shenzhen’s secondary and tertiary industry cannot have a lagging effect on the fixed asset investment of Shenzhen. In addition, the added value of Shenzhen’s secondary industry can have a contemporaneous effect on the fixed asset investment of Shenzhen.

Under supply chain environment, suppliers and purchasers of engineering projects have an agreement relationship of benefit sharing and risk sharing, which makes the evaluation and selection of suppliers different from the traditional situation, mainly manifested in different purposes of evaluation and selection, different index systems adopted, and different index weights. In this paper, the evaluation index, which is different from the traditional supplier selection of engineering projects, is established to select reliable suppliers, which can improve the overall performance of the supply chain of engineering projects, and achieve the goal of rapidly responding to customer demands by promoting the interaction between logistics and information flow. Before the implementation of construction projects, effectively choose a reliable supplier, not only can reduce the supply often appeared in the process of project implementation, can also reduce the purchasing cost, and can make the enterprise focus on their core competitive advantages.

In order to attract social capital to actively participate in the public rental housing PPP project, and to ensure that its service quality and operational efficiency meet the needs of the government and tenants, the benchmark compensation model of public rental housing project in PPP mode is constructed based on reasonable investment yield, and divided government compensation into two parts: annual compensation and one-time compensation after the end of the concession period, then considered the interests of the three parties of social capital, government, and tenants, established a dynamic compensation incentive adjustment mechanism based on social capital performance evaluation. At the same time, the property rights compensation mechanism is introduced, adjusted the amount of compensation based on the key risks involved in government compensation after the end of the concession period, and clarified the way to realize the property rights compensation, that is, the government jointly held shares and shared property rights with social capital, and adopted the “hold and sell” model for the project to ease its own financial pressure. Finally, combined with examples to verify the feasibility of the compensation mechanism.

Aiming at the problems of social capital in PPP projects, such as many factors affecting investment returns, low level of investment returns, and high investment risk, and this paper takes sewage treatment PPP projects as the research object. Through analyzing the influencing factors of social capital investment return, chooses capital asset pricing theory (CAPM) as the research method, and combines weighted average capital cost method (WACC) to construct a calculation model of reasonable investment income interval of sewage treatment PPP project. What’s more, this paper further utilizes these wage treatment industry economy economic data to measure the reasonable investment income range of PPP projects. The application of this model reduces the risk of project investment and provides a reference for the calculation of reasonable investment return interval of other types of PPP projects.

As China’s inland river economic zone and coordinated development zone, the Yangtze River Economic Zone’s infrastructure interconnection is particularly important. In recent years, PPP model has been widely used in infrastructure construction. Because of the large number of participants and the diversification of project groups, how to choose effective regulatory incentive strategies has become the key to the coordinated development of infrastructure PPP projects in the Yangtze River Economic Zone. Based on the methods and ideas of evolutionary game theory, this paper constructs a tripartite game model of social capital, third-party supervision and evaluation institution, and government, and uses a multi-dimensional perspective to obtain the optimal selection strategy of each participant in the equilibrium state. Under the constraints of public participation, reputation effect, and government rewards and punishments, reasonable and scientific regulatory incentives and suggestions are provided for the government in infrastructure PPP projects in the Yangtze River Economic Zone.

This study aims to develop a model to explain the relationship between the maturity of governmental governance and project performance. To achieve this goal, a conceptual framework of governmental governance maturity and a comprehensive framework of megaproject performance were established based on structured interviews. Then a hypothesis that governmental governance could contribute to megaproject performance was proposed, and was tested by a questionnaire using partial least squares structural equation modeling. Results showed how governmental governance maturity influenced megaproject performance. The findings can be used to improve current frameworks for project governance.

In order to understand the general definition of vulnerability in construction management, 50 articles were screened and reviewed from different kinds of construction projects. Besides, content analysis was used in depth, from which 11 core elements of vulnerability were identified. Based on the principle of family-resemblance proposed by Wittgenstein, whose idea is that a complex concept can be understood as a network of overlapping similarities, the four core elements of project characteristics, sensitivity, adaptability, and exposure are regarded as the “flowers” of the sunflower and seven non-core elements such as risk-related, adverse change, potential loss, internal state, robustness, resilience, and complexity are used as “petals” to construct the image of the sunflower model and intuitively express the connotation of the vulnerability of complex construction projects. Then the validity of the model is tested by using relevant authoritative literature. Results shows that four core elements of project characteristics, sensitivity, adaptability, and exposure can be promoted as a common vocabulary for the vulnerability of complex construction projects. This research provides a theoretical reference and practical basis for project risk managers to grasp project characteristics, reduce project vulnerability, and manage large and complex construction project risks.

This paper aims to investigate the key project management strategies that can help improve the productivity of the construction industry. To achieve this goal, a comprehensive literature review was conducted first to identity the prevailing management strategies and productivity indicators used by the industry. Then, based on the results of literature review a questionnaire was developed and disseminated to 53 companies in the construction industry of Singapore. Data collected by the questionnaire was analyzed using the approach of partial least square-structural equation modeling. Results showed that “planning and communication” is the most important strategy, followed by “logistics”, “project strategic management”, “human resource”, and “on-site management”. This research revealed the critical construction management strategies that can improve productivity and filled the gaps of current knowledge body of productivity. It can also deepen practitioners' understanding of the role of strategies in improving productivity and help them develop more effective strategies.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a popular technology. Based on low-power wide-area IoT, long-range, low power consumption data transmission (LoRa) technology, and narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology have been involved in rich applications and multiple research fields such as agricultural and environmental monitoring, etc. so far both at home and abroad. They play a vital role in the field of engineering monitoring. In prefabricated building projects, introducing NB-IoT and LoRa technologies into prefabricated building construction solves the technical problems of traditional networks, such as small coverage, high power consumption, and inconsistent information transmission during the construction process. This paper compares LoRa and NB-IoT in terms of technical characteristics and systems. The comprehensive implementation plan involving the two technologies is elaborated, which is of great significance for timely and accurate digital intelligent management. It also gives a guarantee of high construction quality, efficiency, and improvement in the overall construction management level of the prefabricated building industry in China.

With the rapid development of construction industry in our country, the demand of the development of prefabricated construction is rising obviously. Prefabricated construction with the characteristics of green construction, high efficiency, and strong intensive, can improve the deficiencies in traditional construction greatly. It is fit for the future development of the construction industry. However, prefabricated construction in our country is not goes well. The key affecting factors on the development of prefabricated construction are analyzed in this paper. Then using the AHP analysis from four aspects of policy, technical, economic, and market to show the restricting factors of prefabricated construction’s promotion and put forward some countermeasures to promote the development of prefabricated construction in our country.

As the construction technology of infrastructure engineering are complex and the interest subjects are multivariate, the safety accidents are likely to occur in the construction when lack of supervision. In order to reduce the frequency of safety accidents, it is necessary to establish effective supervision mechanism. Based on the prospect theory, this paper constructs the evolution game model of infrastructure engineering safety supervision, then analyzing the interactive mechanism of supervision behavior of main interest subjects, and studying the factors affecting the evolution of the system. The results show that the stable state of infrastructure engineering safety supervision system is affected by management cost, penalty intensity, and accident loss. Through analysis, government should improve the punishment and establish effective restraint mechanism, as well as clarify the regulatory responsibilities of all subjects. Besides, supervision units can improve supervision efficiency through technological innovation to reduce the probability of accidents, and guarantee the quality and safety of infrastructure projects.

With the continuous development of the construction industry, the quantity and quality of government construction safety supervision staff cannot be matched with the increasingly complicated safety supervision situation, resulting in loopholes in safety supervision. The application of purchase service mode in construction safety supervision has greatly exerted the professional advantages of third-party enterprises, and effectively solved the outstanding problems of insufficient safety supervision ability and weak professional level of the relevant government departments. Based on the bibliometrics and expert interviews, this paper establishes a third-party enterprise building construction safety supervision ability evaluation index system. Based on the index system and the OPM3 developed by PMI, this article constructs a safety supervision capability maturity evaluation model for the third-party enterprise. The model, on the one hand, guides the government to evaluate different companies, and on the other hand provides a path of effort for enterprises to improve its own safety supervision capability.

In recent years, the real estate industry has developed rapidly and has become an important part of the national economy. Due to the characteristics of the industry, stable housing prices and qualified housing quality are closely related to everyone. However, the development of China’s real estate industry is not perfect, coupled with numerous factors affecting the industry, the role of the relationship is complex, it is difficult to carry out quantitative analysis. Aiming at this situation, this paper uses SEM to fit the influencing factors and mechanism of real estate industry competitiveness, and combines SEM and DEA to construct a DEA model with SEM constraint cone. Using the data from Beijing from 2000 to the present, the competitiveness efficiency evaluation is carried out. From the research results, the relative importance of various factors and the problems of the efficiency of the real estate industry in Beijing can be obtained. Based on this, targeted countermeasures are proposed.

Construction industry is playing the role of an important pillar in today’s economy. With the growing market and increasing complexity in construction projects, firms are vulnerable to swelling risks more than ever. A firm’s decision to bid or not for a perspective project impacts both the project’s success as well as generation of profit for the company. This study focuses to inspect the strategic intrinsic factors influencing the bid/no-bid decision of Pakistani contractors. A questionnaire survey sent to 300 contractors listed with Pakistan Engineering Council was used to collect data. “Financial position of firm” and “ability to fulfill the need of bid” in firm related factors, “management staff must know the conditions of the site” and “the project should increase the experience of the management staff” in management and carrying related factors, “method of bid evaluation of client” and “politician’s pressure on the client” in client related factors were recognized to be the most critical intrinsic factors impacting the bid/no-bid decision of firms. Furthermore, the study identified that the bidding decision is highly dictated by the client and firm’s internal environment. A better evaluation of these can result in better bidding decisions eventually leading to a higher project success rate in the industry.

Construction firms are of crucial importance when it comes to the development of the nation. Given the complex web of communication and sets of preferences, the construction industry faces innumerable challenges. Of most criticalities that are commonly observed in the industry, it is the time overrun that accounts for most of the adversities faced by the construction industry of Pakistan. These factors may include communication and coordination factors, contract management factors, design and documentation factors, and finance management factors. The concurrent study aims to determine the magnitude and prioritize these designated factors upon the time overruns in the surveyed firms that may further lead to delineations such as cost overruns. To accomplish the research objectives a survey was carried out, being based upon 113 construction projects being run under supervision of respective firms. As per our deduction it was the lack of coordination in the design phase that did account for the time delays in the subjected firms. While contract management factors marked the poor project management as the leading factor to cause the time related adversities. In the similar context, design and documentation factors classified the design changes during construction as important consideration. Whereas finance management factors indicated the monthly payment difficulties from the agencies to lead to the time delay in the construction projects on the national scale. The concurrent study is of vital importance in terms of bridging the contextual gap by surveying the construction firms in a developing nation such as Pakistan. Moreover, the theoretical progression was addressed by the current study by including the designated factors cumulatively in a single model and testing for them statistically.

The concept of stress was not generally researched until the early 20th century. Early studies have led to further research being conducted to find out the effects of stress on a human being. Stress can have a large impact on a person’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. The construction industry is made up of a variety of different management roles. People working in these roles, known as project management practitioners (PMP), have an influence on the outcome of a range of areas in construction projects. These roles and tasks, due to the high importance, can bring different causes of stress and some likely reasons for this stress is due to the task and performance outcomes which need to be meet. Stress can affect project management practitioners regularly and can have negative impacts to performance. There is however minimal research conducted on project management practitioners’ stress in the Australian construction industry. This study is therefore conducted to examine how project management practitioners manage to conduct high quality performance while suffering large amounts of stress. In this paper, the results of an in-depth review and analysis of relevant literature are reported. In particular, the stressors impacting and stress types related to project management practitioners’ performance and the potential alleviation tools and techniques used to reduce stress levels have been identified. Resultantly, a theoretical framework is proposed for further empirical tests.

In densely populated cities, rapid urbanization has accelerated the development of the built environment, which may change residents’ lifestyles and have a great impact on their mental health. As pointed out by many researchers, the built environment is designed to make residents get more happiness, not just physically but also psychologically. Taking a case study in China, field visits were conducted to four small-scale communities in Shenzhen. By observing and conducting interviews with 47 respondents, the study aims to explore the practical problems and influential factors in the living environment and to understand perceptions of residents based on residential well-being. The study also investigates the relationship between the overall residential well-being and the positive affect, to further understand the effects of different emotional aspects on residential well-being, which is expected to provide a new direction for the future community design.

The rapid ageing society in the urbanised world urges cities to make changes and be well prepared for challenges arise. Promoting age-friendly communities (AFCs) will not only be helpful to achieve WHO’s sustainable goals, but also shape cities more inclusive and equitable places. For developing countries like China, stakeholders face more challenges as medical care, the welfare system, and urban-rural integration issues have not been well addressed. Therefore, understanding stakeholders’ concerns at the briefing stage will be helpful to promote active collaborations. This study first reviews stakeholders and their roles to play in AFCs projects, critical factors of building AFCs, and the importance of the briefing stage; then applies a two-mode social network to analyse relationships of stakeholders and critical factors based on the evaluation metrices generated from three rounds of focus group meetings. According to the results, specific features of Chinese stakeholders and critical factors, challenges of promoting AFCs under Chinese background, and potential strategies to mitigate stakeholders’ conflicts at the briefing stage are discussed. The outcomes of this study can serve as references to understand relationships between stakeholders and critical factors, which may, therefore, improve the AFCs constructing management processes in urban China.

The project-based settings in construction hinder the transfer of knowledge from one project to future projects. Knowledge management approaches suggest that new knowledge created within construction projects should pass to the organisation level and then be shared at the organisation level and transferred to future projects. Previous research had found that construction project knowledge is more likely to be disseminated through networks of strong informal relationships. Hence, it is important to build and maintain these strong networks within construction organisations to enable wider sharing of project knowledge. However, little is known on how such networks exist in construction organisations in Australia and how to enable these networks for effective knowledge sharing. Social network analysis provides a method of analysing network patterns. By using social network analysis, this research is aimed to identify and measure knowledge sharing networks within construction organisations using the case study research method by selecting several large construction firms operating in Sydney region in Australia. The paper reports on the initial phases of this study through a literature review and introduces the research framework that is adopted for future case studies.

On the basis of defining the connotation of land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing, it interprets that land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing is an important content of government regulation, which points out that the government regulation of land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing can maintain land equity, guarantee land efficiency and sustainable use of land. It also puts forward that under the current land property right structure and management system, the land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing by the government should be based on the basic concept of “government first rule”. The government should adhere to the core values of fairness and justice, increase the innovation of urban housing land system, clarify and effectively and legally perform its management and service functions, so that can strengthen the government regulation of the land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing, make up for the deficiency of the market mechanism in the land allocation for urban indemnificatory housing, protect the basic housing rights and interests of urban residents, and ensure the fair, efficient, and sustainable use of land resources of urban indemnificatory housing.

MOOC is a new curriculum model in the field of open education in recent years, which has the characteristics of openness, large-scale, self-organization, and sociality. With the continuous popularization and application of MOOC teaching, its classroom teaching quality has been paid more and more attention by educational managers and participants, and the influence of MOOC teaching effectiveness has also attracted the attention of many scholars. On the basis of the existing research, this paper concludes that the influencing factors of MOOC teaching effectiveness are investment time, curriculum content, chapter objectives, curriculum objectives, education level, learning motivation, learning time, learning participation, and academic examination, and based on DEMATEL method to explore the relationship among the factors, find out that the main factors affecting the effectiveness of MOOC teaching are teaching content, teaching objectives, learner types, and learner input. The cause degree was 1.456, 0.343, 0.771, and 0.497, respectively. At the same time, in view of the key factors affecting the effective teaching of MOOC and the existing problems, this paper puts forward that the effectiveness of MOOC teaching can be guaranteed from the following aspects: the effectiveness of teaching objectives and contents, the effectiveness of teaching interaction, the fundamental premise of careful teaching design, and the improvement of the learning input of MOOC learners as an important guide, in order to improve the defects of MOOC teaching and perfect the MOOC teaching effectiveness system.

Knowledge sharing behavior among project members plays an important role in improving management level and organizational performance in project-based enterprises, and employees’ well-being at work can have a positive impact on individual behavior. However, it is still unclear how project members’ well-being at work affects knowledge sharing behavior in the field of construction at present. This paper aims to explore the influence relationship for improving knowledge sharing with a specific focus on project members’ well-being at work. Based on literature analysis, research hypotheses and theoretical model were established, then a structured questionnaire was compiled and 540 valid samples data from Chinese construction industry were collected. Confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling analysis were applied to test the theoretical model and research hypotheses. Empirical research results showed that project members’ well-being at work has a significant positive effect on knowledge sharing behavior among project members, especially tacit knowledge sharing behavior. Therefore, knowledge sharing behavior among project members can be promoted through improving project members’ well-being at work for project-based enterprises in the Chinese construction industry.

The construction industry is the pillar industry of China's national economy. The development of China’s regional construction industry shows great differences. The long-term existence and excessive expansion of this difference will not only affect the overall efficiency of the development of the construction industry, but also the effectiveness of resources. Based on the Cobb-Douglas production function, this paper analyzes the input and output of China’s construction industry in 2005–2017, and explores the regional differences in the production efficiency of China’s construction industry and the impact mechanism, thus summarizing the distribution of China’s construction industry. The distribution characteristics and existing problems of the construction industry are targeted and put forward relevant suggestions to provide reference for the healthy development of the construction industry.

Based on the evolutionary game theory, this paper analyzes the evolution process of the government and developers in BIM technology development decision-making, in order to verify the effectiveness of BIM technology incentive policies under the interaction of government and developers through a more accurate mathematical model and numerical simulations, and provide some reference for the incentive mechanism. The results show that the strategy choice of the two game subjects mainly depends on the technology transformation cost and benefit of the developer. The government’s efforts to increase incentives and penalties are less effective for developers. However, by providing technical support and improving normative standards, creating development cost reduction, and income growth prospects, developers would be better encouraged to actively introduce BIM technology. It is necessary to promote the informatization process of the construction industry through the improvement of market mechanisms.

China’s Belt and Road Initiative has brought broad development prospects to construction companies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in social responsibility behaviors of construction enterprises under different institutional backgrounds along the Belt and Road countries based on institutional theory, and to find out the influencing factors of corporate social responsibility behavior differences at the national level. Through factor analysis and cluster analysis methods, third-party data is used to verify the countries along the Belt and Road. The research results confirm that the differences in social responsibility behavior of construction enterprises are influenced by political, economic, and social factors in different institutional contexts. The results can guide international construction enterprises to fulfill their social responsibilities more appropriately in the countries along the Belt and Road, as well as deepen the understanding of practitioners and the academic on the social responsibility of construction enterprises under different institutional backgrounds.

With the development of economy constantly, the real estate industry plays an important role of the national economy. The rapid development of real estate has further improved the living standard of residents. However, the unstable fluctuation of real estate market has also posed a threat to the economy. On the basis of previous research results, this paper selects twelve economic indicators such as Shanghai composite index, money supply, consumer price index, financial expenditure, using the co-integration test, and VAR model to study the influencing factors of stock price change of real estate listed companies in China. And based on VAR model, Granger causality test, impulse response function, and variance decomposition are used to analyze the empirical data. The results show that there are three long-term equilibrium stable relationships between the Shanghai composite index, the consumer price index, the financial expenditure, the exchange rate, commercial housing sales price, the steel production, the national housing economy index, and the stock price change of real estate listed companies in China. And these seven factors have different effects on the stock price change of real estate listed companies. Based on the research conclusion, this paper puts forward some policy suggestions to promote the steady development of China’s real estate market.

With the gradual implementation of national regulatory policies, significant changes have taken place on the development model of real estate enterprises, and the competition among real estate enterprises has become increasingly fierce. However, from the internet to cloud computing to big data to artificial intelligence, a new generation of information technology has been gradually formed, prompting an important change in enterprise management mode. This paper analyzes the application of big data related technology to improve the human resource management of real estate enterprises, and believes that big data related technology should be fully applied to promote. Optimization of human resource management system is the only road for real estate enterprises to enhance their core competitiveness in the future.

Under the industry development mode in which high investment, high returns, and high risks coexist, it is very important to analyze and prevent the financial risks of capital-intensive real estate enterprises. In view of the fact that most previous studies on financial risk early warning models only consider financial indicators and neglect the impact of some non-financial indicators, this paper takes 87 listed companies in A-Share real estate industry in Shanghai and Shenzhen stock exchanges from 2016 to 2019 as the research objects, based on the logistic model, and considers the early warning effect of financial and non-financial indicators on financial risks. The results show that on the one hand, financial indicators such as solvency, profitability, and cash flow ability play an important role, on the other hand, whether the enterprise has been dealt with in violation of the law also has a significant impact on financial risk early warning.

In recent years, under the background of economic globalization and enterprise collectivization, the real estate industry as the pillar industry of China’s national economic development, its healthy development is related to the national economy and people’s livelihood. The capital of real estate enterprises has strong liquidity, which requires sufficient cash flow to maintain the continuous operation of real estate enterprises. The paper based on the analysis of the real estate enterprise capital chain characteristic, as well as the real estate enterprises on the basis of supply and demand of funds, explores the influence factors of enterprise capital chain of real estate and real estate enterprise capital chain risks, and puts forward the real estate enterprise capital chain risk prevention measures, so as to help promote the healthy development of real estate enterprises in our country.

Chinese international contractors (CICs) are gaining competitive edge in the international contracting market by applying the “going out” strategy and the “Belt and Road” initiative. They contract projects in more than 180 counties and regions worldwide. The cultures of these countries differ largely from each other and from China. Based on the industrial practices of CICs, the present study examines the potential correlation between cultural distance and market selection of international contracting. The definition and dimensions of cultural distance in international contracting are elucidated and the cultural distance between the host country and China are measured. The turnover of CICs measured by countries and regions refers to China’s statistical yearbook, and the data are analyzed through regression analysis. The present study draws contractors’ attention to consider international market selection in terms of the cultural distance as part of their global expansion strategy.

Cities, as important spatial carriers for economic development, are being reshaped by the rapidly growing of knowledge economy. Creative cities have emerged, which became a trend of urban transformation. By reviewing studies of evaluating the creative cities at home and abroad, this research proposes an evaluation index to measure the importance of different indicators in constructing creative city. The index contains 3 first-level indicators and 16 second-level factors. The expert scoring method and the analytic hierarchy process are used to weight the indicator. The results show that the creative environment, especially the economic condition has the greatest impact on the creative city development. Then this study takes Chengdu as an example to implement the established evaluation index with its 2015–2017 statistical data. Based on the quantitative analysis result, this paper proposes several policy recommendations for creative city practice, especially in the less developed regions. The findings can also provide a reference to the other local governments in the way of constructing creative city.

The real estate industry has made great contributions to regional economic growth. However, when the economy is too dependent on real estate, it will make the economic structure unbalanced and hinder the healthy and healthy development of the economy. Experience shows that the change of industrial structure will change the dependence of the economy on real estate. Therefore, the industrial structure “equilibrium” and “upgrade” are selected as the proxy variables of industrial structure change, and the real estate industry’s proportion of GDP is chosen as the economic dependence on real estate investment. The proxy variable, using the panel data of 35 large and medium-sized cities for measurement analysis, shows that the industrial structure change has a significant impact on reducing the dependence of the economy on real estate, but the impact has obvious stage characteristics. When the industrial structure is simple and the growth rate of the real estate industry is fast, the industrial upgrading has a significant effect on reducing the dependence on real estate. However, when the industry diversifies and the real estate industry grows into a steady state, the industrial upgrading will increase the dependence of the regional economy on the real estate industry. More attention should be paid to the equalization of industrial structure.

The real estate industry plays an important role in the national economy, which has always been the focus of macro-control. Due to the macro-control policy guidance, the real estate financial market is not developed. The current real estate industry in China is still lack of financing channels, and facing financing pressure and other issues. REITs is still in its infancy in China, but in the United States, as well as some developed countries and regions have formed a well-runned system. We can see, once REITs is implemented in China mainland, the real estate financing, especially of public rental housing, commercial complex, pension real estate, tourism real estate, cultural property, medical real estate, and other areas, and help to alleviate the financial pressure of real estate developers. Therefore, we have to study foreign REITs risk management measures, to solve the bottleneck of China’s REITs development, to ensure the healthy development of the mainland REITs and then promote the development of China’s real estate.

Highway is an important infrastructure of the country, and highway asset evaluation is also an important part of highway asset management system. The full assets of highway facilities include all highway infrastructure assets, such as pavement, subgrade, structure (bridge, tunnel, and culvert), and ancillary facility (medial divider, railing guardrail, greening, sign and marking, etc.). The evaluation method of the whole assets of highway facilities is studied from three aspects: technical condition evaluation, performance prediction model, and method of asset value calculation. It’s a useful work of doing the asset evaluation and data analysis of the whole assets of the national and provincial roads. Doing such research work could help the investment decision-makers be clearer of the annual change of the total assets. It also provides a theoretical basis for making the most scientific and reasonable decisions such as on medium-long term plan, annual maintenance plan, investment strategy and implementation plan, and so on.

Small towns are the link between urban and the rural areas. The development of small towns can not only promote the development of the village but also promote the construction of big cities. The construction of small towns can alleviate the pressure on the housing and employment of the city, and it can drive the economic development of the countryside so that it no longer depends entirely on the agricultural and sideline industries, and at the same time accelerate the pace of social common prosperity. This paper analyzes the problems and causes in the construction of small towns in China, discusses the obstacles to the construction of small towns, finds suitable development paths, and accelerates the pace of construction.

In order to improve the safety management level of prefabricated construction projects, the safety influencing factors are extracted from the characteristics of the construction site and the safety incidents. Decision making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) and interpretive structural modeling (ISM) are used to analyze the relevance of the safety-affecting factors and their location in the safety architecture of the prefabricated construction site. The result shows that the safety of prefabricated construction projects is affected by root factors, transmission factors, and direct factors. Controlling the root factors and key transmission factors can improve the direct factors, which are conducive to improving the stability of the safety system on the construction site of the prefabricated construction projects.

We examine the effects of neighboring behavior on the social adaptation of low-income Chinese employees. We further examine the mediating role of mental health in this relationship. To conduct a thorough examination, the neighboring behavior scales, the 12-item general health questionnaire (GHQ-12), and the social adaptation self-evaluation scale were presented to 241 low-income residents in a mixed-income community. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was adopted to evaluate data from a two-wave survey conducted in China. The findings of this study indicate that, for low-income groups, neighboring behavior has an effect on social adaptation, and the effect is partially mediated by mental health. Our research expands the scope of current community support literature by incorporating bi-directional neighboring behavior. By adopting mental health as a mediator, our findings examine the spillover mechanisms through which social adaptation and mental health are influenced by neighboring behavior. This study also provides suggestions on how low-income groups in mixed-income communities can improve their social adaptation.

The brain drain of construction enterprises hinders the development of the industry, thereby affecting the sustained and steady development of regional economy. On the basis of the empirical data of construction enterprises in the Northeast China, this paper employs an analytic hierarchy process to construct a model index system for the brain drain of construction enterprises within the aforementioned region on three levels, namely, individual, enterprise, and social environment levels. Further, this paper also analyses the influencing factors. As a result, the following conclusions are drawn. First, the enterprise factor in the criterion layer is the primary factor affecting the brain drain of construction enterprises in Northeast China. Second, in the project layer, the salary level and incentive system, enterprise scale and development prospects, and socioeconomic factors are the main factors affecting the brain drain of construction enterprises in Northeast China. Thus, we propose concrete countermeasures from the perspective of enterprises and governments to effectively reduce brain drain and revitalise the economic development of Northeast China.

Organizational knowledge sharing behavior usually occurs in communities of practice (CoPs), which can be influenced by many factors. Though prior researches have explored the antecedents of knowledge sharing in CoPs from different perspective, the critical factors are still ambiguous. Therefore, the paper discusses the influence factors of knowledge sharing in CoPs from individual, community, organization levels based on the literature review, and conducts an empirical study for calculating the influence factors weight to evaluate the impact of various factors on CoPs’ knowledge sharing. It is examined that trust, motivation, community type, and organizational environment have crucial influences on the degree of knowledge sharing in CoPs, and some suggestions in view of trust, motivation, community type, and organizational environment are brought up in the end to encourage CoPs’ knowledge sharing.

This paper firstly sets up a cloud ruler based on the cloud theory which can fully express the fuzzy and random characteristics. Secondly, it puts forward the training index system for engineering management professionals in financial and economic universities. Then, it allocates the weight of each element of the index system according to the analytic hierarchy process. On this basis, it constructs the response cloud measurement model, and effectively measures the response degree between the training mode and the index system. This paper selects the data of a typical financial and economic university for empirical analysis, and finally comes to the conclusion: the construction of response cloud measurement model can accurately evaluate the fit between talent training mode and index system; at the same time, this model has reference value for the evaluation and optimization of the talent training mode of engineering management in financial and economic universities in the future.
