Analysis of the Influence of Age on Human Thermal Comfort

ABSTRACT

Some have paid attention to study on ages and thermal comfort in recent 10 years. It has been found different results about age and thermal comfort. Some observed a significant but poor correlation, another found no difference, and etc. 2,707 samples was conducted on age and human thermal comfort. The results showed that the thermal comfort voting value was located in comfort (0) and slightly uncomfortable (0.5) for all age groups when the thermal sensation voting value is zero. People over 45 years old had more proportion of comfortable than that below 45 years old in the same environment. The thermal neutral temperature of the group under 45 years old was 20.4°C; and that for the group of 45–59 years old was 20.5°C. 21.2°C, and 22°C for the group of 60–75 years old and 75–89 years old respectively. This helps to provide reference for indoor and outdoor space design.
