Licensing

ASCE Journals, Proceedings, Civil Engineering Magazine, E-books, Standards, and the ASCE Conference Video Collection are available to paid subscribers as part of their paid Print+Online or Online only subscription. All subscribers must complete an Online User License before access will be granted. Prepayment of subscriptions is required. If you wish to submit an online user license, please select the applicable registration information below.

Access and Usage

Institutional subscribers gain access to licensed materials via their organization's IP addresses and may use the archive in a manner consistent with their Institutional User License Agreement. A paid subscription is not required to use the search and browse features or to view tables of contents and abstracts. Downloading full-text digital papers is available only to ASCE Library or online journal subscribers. All full-text journal papers are provided in HTML and PDF format.

Archive Policy

ASCE is committed to the long-term preservation of its digital journal content and has arranged for secure archiving with Portico and CLOCKSS to ensure that ASCE journals are preserved and available for future scholars, researchers, and students. The archival record will include the back issues of all ASCE Journals.

Post-Cancellation Policy: Institutions may request post-cancellation electronic files on DVD for a nominal fee for the period during which an online journal subscription was held.

Usage Rights for Online Products

Usage Rights of active institutional subscribers will be governed by the terms of the current Institutional User Agreement, a signed copy of which must be submitted to ASCE. Visit our Librarians page to download a copy of the agreement. Subscribers are given an option to purchase a physical archive copy (DVD) of that term's material at the end of each subscription term. The same usage rights as for active subscribers apply to use of the physical archive copy. Upon lapse of an online subscription, no additional online service is provided.

Note: The physical archive copy will not contain linking and other features inherent in the online version of the journal available to active subscribers.

• All subscriptions must be prepaid.
• Subscriptions are accepted on a one-year basis only. Multiple-year subscriptions will not be accepted. If previous volumes of the journals are requested, they will be charged at the current annual subscription rate.
• All subscriptions are entered on a calendar year basis. Service begins upon receiving a paid order. Journal back issues for the current year will be sent on late subscriptions. Civil Engineering Magazine and ASCE Library Cards are entered on a random expire basis and begin upon receipt of a paid order. If back issues of Civil Engineering Magazine are requested, they will be charged at the single-issue rate.
• Passwords for Member online subscriptions are sent by e-mail upon receipt of subscription payment for Online Only service, or upon receipt of payment of the access fee for individual print subscribers who wish to take advantage of the online service. Online subscribers are required to have a valid e-mail address.
• There are no agency or library discounts given on subscriptions.                                                             
• Domestic rates apply only to the U.S. and possessions. Foreign rates apply to all other countries. For journals being shipped to foreign destinations, air delivery service is included in the price.
• Requests for cancellation made after an order has been processed and service has begun are subject to a service charge. A credit or refund will be given on the unserved portion of the subscription.
• Prices are subject to change without notice.
• Missing print issue requests will be honored only if received within 3 months (U.S. domestic) and 5 months (international) of publication date.

ASCE Member Subscription Policy

As a membership benefit, ASCE permits members to purchase ASCE journals for their personal, noncommercial use at a substantially reduced rate. This reduced rate is offered to individual members only and is not available to non-members, libraries, reading rooms (both corporate and academic) or institutions. If in its sole discretion, ASCE determines that a subscriber is purchasing subscriptions for non-personal, commercial, or other unauthorized purposes, ASCE may revoke all current subscriptions and prohibit the purchaser from any future purchases at the member rate.

The following member grades may purchase ASCE Journals at member rates. Member and Associate Members are eligible to purchase up to 10 journals and Affiliate Members up to 5 journals at the discounted member rate. There is no limit on the number of ASCE Journals that Distinguished/Honorary Members and Fellows may purchase at the member rate. Student Members are not eligible for a discounted member rate. ASCE members may choose to purchase additional journals at the non-discounted price.
