Analysis of Trip Characteristics by the Use of Traffic Flow Statistics: Case Study on the Intersection of Xinjiekou, Nanjing
Publication: CICTP 2023
ABSTRACT
In this paper, we analyze the trip characteristics of urban residents by the intersection data of Xinjiekou, Nanjing. The statistical results of traffic flow status on the four approaches, including the queuing lengths, the numbers of stops, and the delay indexes, are obtained from the datasets of AutoNavi Map. The data between April and May 2022 show that when there is no extra measure of COVID-19 prevention in Nanjing, the highest traffic volume is usually found on Saturdays, while the lowest result could be observed on Sundays. In addition, some unexpected results could be observed, e.g., on the day of “520,” the traffic is more congested than any other day of this month. But during Labor Day, it is less congested than on ordinary weekends. Finally, the similarities and differences between our results and those of previous studies are also discussed.
