ABSTRACT

Drivers are prone to visual fatigue, perceptual retardation, and reduced vigilance when driving in tunnels, which affect driving safety, especially in long tunnels. To improve the driving safety of highway tunnels, researchers have proposed to set landscape inside the tunnel to alleviate drivers’ visual fatigue and improve their perception of speed and distance, which has been applied in practice and achieved certain results. There is no clear design process and industry standard for tunnel interior landscape design, and it is difficult to analyze and quantify the improvement effect of tunnel landscape design. Based on the investigation of landscape design of tunnel in various parts of China, this paper summarizes and analyzes the design status quo of tunnel roofs and side walls, pavement, landscape belts, and so on, and the effect of improvements. From the shortcomings of existing research, the future research prospects of tunnel interior landscape design are put forward.
