Wind Loads on Building Appurtenances and Other Structures
Publication: Wind Loads: Guide to the Wind Load Provisions of ASCE 7-22
Abstract
This chapter provides examples for determining wind loads on other structures using the provisions of ASCE 7-22. The pressures determined in these examples are limit state design pressures for strength design. Design wind loads are determined for a tall solid billboard sign 60 ft above the ground. Design wind loads are also determined for rooftop equipment on a typical flat roof commercial building. The highest risk category of the building on which the rooftop equipment is located or other building or structure to which it provides a necessary service should be selected. The rooftop equipment does not provide necessary service to any other building or structure. The function of the building is mercantile. Component and cladding loads on rooftop equipment are also determined. The design wind pressures for a typical solar array installed parallel to the roof are determined. The building is not an essential facility, and structural failure would not pose substantial risk to human life.
