ABSTRACT
There are some privileged vehicles having travelling precedence over other vehicles during large-scale activities, such as Winter Olympics, on the road network around the activity venue. A rolling green-band scheme is proposed in this study to guarantee the travelling priority, and it can be used in conjunction with dedicated lanes if conditions permit. The rolling green wave is proposed to dynamically adjust the signal timing at several intersections in front of the vehicle to provide green wave as the privileged vehicle moves in the road network, so as to realize the synchronous advance of the signal green wave and the privileged vehicle. After the privileged vehicle passes the intersection, the recovery strategy is implemented to minimize the influence on the regular traffic.
