ABSTRACT
With limited traffic information, drivers may suddenly accelerate or decelerate, which leads to the dilemma of balancing the driving comfort and traffic efficiency at intersections. In this situation, this paper proposed a speed guidance optimization method, which adopted the S-shaped acceleration and deceleration algorithm. Firstly, the factors of vehicle driving safety and comfort were considered, and the thresholds of the economic speed and acceleration/deceleration for the target vehicle were determined. Then, an intersection vehicle traffic control strategy was proposed, which can transmit the driving speed smoothly. Finally, a Prescan-Matlab/Simulink simulation experiment was implemented, and two scenarios were conducted which considered the variable speed guidance and driver reaction time. The simulation results showed that the proposed model reduces the number of stops by 52.5%, and the travel time by 26.9%. It shows that the proposed model can effectively improve the traffic efficiency and vehicle driving comfort at intersections.
