ABSTRACT
Skid resistance of pavement seriously affects driving safety. To quickly and accurately obtain the surface texture parameters and evaluate the skid resistance of asphalt pavement, two machine vision methods including the digital grayscale image method (DGS) and the close-range photogrammetry method (CRP) were used to reconstruct the 3D texture model. Three pavement texture parameters were calculated from the obtained 3D model. To verify the accuracy of the two methods, the correlation analysis between the obtained parameters and the MTD measured from the sand patch method (SMTD) was carried out. Results show that MTD, RMSR, and fractal dimension obtained by the DGS and CRP methods both correlate well with the data of SMTD, while close-range photogrammetry can reconstruct the pavement texture more accurately. Besides that, the fractal dimension, which has the strongest correlation with the tire-road friction coefficient, is recommended as the optimal parameter to evaluate the skid resistance of pavement.
