ABSTRACT
Motor vehicles may over-yield or rush to cross the roadway with pedestrians when actually yielding to them. To protect the safety of pedestrian crossings and increase the overall efficiency of the traffic system, this paper analyzes the yielding characteristics of motor vehicles by gathering data on motor vehicles yielding at crosswalks on unsignalized road sections. The gathered data were subjected to descriptive statistics and significance tests, after which the continuous variables were categorized using K-means clustering. According to the experimental findings, the yielding rate for motor vehicles was approximately 71.94%, with normal yielding, excessive yielding, and forced yielding each accounting for percentages of 43.57%, 12.24%, and 16.14%, respectively. The conduct of motor vehicles when yielding is more affected by 14 parameters.
