ABSTRACT
Vehicles are challenging to travel on mountainous roads, and driving risks increase because of complex terrain, changeable climate, large longitudinal slope, small road friction coefficient, and other characteristics of mountainous roads. Especially for a large vehicle, as one of the main tools of mountain transportation, its low speed and difficulty turning on mountainous roads seriously reduce the road capacity, driving comfort, and driving safety. In this paper, based on the simulation experiment, large vehicles are selected as experimental vehicles, and the driving performance of the large vehicles on mountain roads is studied. Furthermore, we analyze the influences of road friction coefficient, full load mass, and braking power for different slopes on large vehicles’ climbing and braking performance, which help the subsequent standardized design and safe use of mountainous roads.
