ABSTRACT
Vehicles are prone to conflict at intersections when turning right without signal control because drivers’ behaviors are more unstable in the choice of uniform speed, deceleration, and acceleration. First, we collect and extract the physical characteristics of intersections and the operation parameters of right-turn vehicles from the actual operation videos of three typical intersections in Guangzhou and Zhongshan. Second, a multiple linear regression model is established to describe and analyze the impact of various factors on the average speed of the right turn without signal control. The results show that the average right-turn speed of vehicles is highly influenced by the starting speed of vehicles, the right turn lane, traffic continuity, and interference to traffic flow. The analysis results can provide a reference for the right-turn traffic situation improvement, as well as for the operational decision-making of driverless vehicles in actual road conditions.
