Research and Practice of Operating Expressway Maintenance Based on Unmanned Automatic Driving Technology

ABSTRACT

With the accelerated empowerment of information technology, the digitization, intelligence, and unmanned features of construction machinery in highway construction have become the trend. In recent years, explorations on unmanned construction technology in newly constructed expressways have been beneficial and achieved encouraging results. However, its application in highway maintenance projects still needs to be available. Compared with a newly constructed highway project, a maintenance project in operating expressway experiences more complex situations and the quality requirements of pavement surface conditions are much stricter. Based on the yearly special maintenance project of the G25 Longli Expressway in Zhejiang Province, this paper discusses the technical path for implementing unmanned maintenance construction in the operating expressway. The road condition indexes of unmanned construction sections are collected and discussed. The results show that unmanned construction machines under path planning based on the road trajectory data can ensure that the construction is controlled within 2 cm in terms of spreading accuracy and that the pass rate of each detected condition index exceeds 90%. The unmanned construction method effectively avoids the lack of rolling, which normally occurring during manual rolling. Compared with the traditional manual construction mode, the demand for auxiliary personnel is reduced by 50%, improving construction quality and efficiency.
