Carbon Credit System as an Incentive to Green Travel: A Literature Review

ABSTRACT
As a new emissions reduction mechanism focusing on the consumption field of public life, carbon credit system, which can quantify the carbon reduction contributed by individual residents in the field of living consumption, and reward them accordingly, is the innovation and expansion of the existing carbon emissions trading system. First, a literature review is conducted to analyze the importance of implementing a carbon credit system. Representative studies are summarized to find out its theoretical development trend. Worldwide representative implementation cases are collected to make an induction of its characteristics and explore its working mechanism. Finally, the limitations are pointed out of the current carbon credit system and prospects for future research focus are made. The induced characteristics and mechanism of a carbon credit system could be helpful to policy-makers and scholars as they could be enlightened through the limitations and research directions pointed out by this paper.
