ABSTRACT
In order to study the effects of urban road intersection operation and different platoon lengths on motor vehicle emissions, speed, acceleration, VSP, and platoon lengths are identified as key factors. Firstly, VSP (vehicle specific power) is used for clustering analysis, and then MATLAB is used for simulation experiments to calculate the vehicle emissions under the three passage modes. The results show that the smoother the deceleration is, the lower the emissions is under the deceleration without considering the queue length. As the queue length increases, the emissions of carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons increase by 5.0%, 4.2%, 4.0%, and 2%, respectively. When the vehicle speed is 20 km/h and the acceleration ratio is maintained, emissions are further reduced by about 9%. This also suggests that reducing the length of vehicle waiting at intersections and reducing vehicle waiting time at intersections can significantly reduce vehicle pollution at intersections.
