Abstract
To improve traffic safety facilities by design methods, common design flaws are summed up after a comparative analysis. On the basis of "people-oriented" and "safety first" design philosophy, several advanced traffic safety facilities in China and foreign countries are introduced. Then a series of methods suited to the national conditions of China are proposed to improve the safety facility design, installation and use. Based on the damaged condition of these facilities and Traffic Violation behaviors obtained from questionnaires, this paper proposes to improve the design methods mainly in the following three ways: changing the color and shape to enhance warnings effect, optimizing size and structure to increase firmness, and adopting new materials to improve abrasion resistance and visual effects. These methods aim to provide clear, timely and intuitive traffic information for drivers, as well as ensure traffic safety and reduce traffic accidents. Consequently, we can provide people with more secure, fast and convenient access to the destination.
