Abstract
A legibility evaluation method for the urban guide signs was introduced based on the experiment of dynamic driving simulation. For 3 different forms of guide sign, firstly, a virtual road networks and related sign system were set up for the driving simulation, secondly, a simulating experiment scheme for comparison was designed, and then 42 subjects were selected to participate in experiments and a statistical analysis was made base on experiment datum. Research shows that driving simulation experiment can effectively reflect the drivers' cognitive character for guide sign in the road traffic environment and dynamic driving conditions. Three kinds of experimental results for a given route and the relevant goal, "Completed reach", "non-complete reach", and "fail to reach", were statistically analyzed. Finally, from the analysis the cognitive effectiveness sequence for the three guide signs was obtained.
