Social Benefits of ELF-Monitoring
Publication: Earth and Space 2010: Engineering, Science, Construction, and Operations in Challenging Environments
Abstract
Extremely low frequency (ELF, up to 30Hz) electric fields play an ambivalent role in human life. Necessity of ELF monitoring is validated by the fact that the electric activity of the human brain and other organs manifest themselves in the same frequency range. The phenomenon of Brain Waves Entrainment, discovered in the 70's, also makes the role of ELF-fields socially-important. It is an established fact that subterranean water veins effect human health negatively. We will first link this fact to ELF- activity and show the mechanism of the conversion of Earth's own permanent electric fields into ELF-electric fields by a surface of turbulent waters. The strength of this field is ∼100V/m and is enough to inflict serious problems on the brain. The harmful impact of ELF-producing water veins can explain the existence of so called "black spots" on the roads. Mortality rate is as much as 5 times more in regions having subterranean waters, than regions without subterranean waters. Considering large populations that are exposed to heavy natural ELF-fields and the illnesses due to this exposure, ELF-monitoring of public domains and dwellings, as well as selected areas of the roadways, is recommended. Locating bodies of water is another very important social mission related to ELF study. The inexpensive ELF-monitoring equipment can be employed both for searching harmful ELF-zones, and water-prospecting. Observation of ELF-field activity of human muscles, (especially leg muscles) even at a slight contraction, allows us to develop techniques for searching human bodies buried under ruins at a disaster.
