Abstract
Feasibility study on application of BOTDR (Brillouin Optical Time Domain Relectometer) to health monitoring for bridge structures is conducted in this paper. According to the monitoring requirement of bridge strucutrure, BOTDR temperature sensor and BOTDR strain sensor are proposed and studied. Temperature sensitivity and strain sensitivity test are conducted to study the feasibility of the sensor. Temperature sensitivity test results show that BOTDR temperature sensors with packaged optical fiber length of 5m, 10m and 20m can measure the temperature correctly. Strain sensitivity test results show that BOTDR strain sensor with optic fiber length of 1m and 2m can measure the strain correctly.
