A Study of the Dynamic Performance of the Heavy Haul Locomotive with the Longitudinal Press Force on Coupler

Abstract
The anti-overturning ability of the coupler has turn more and more important with the increase of the length of the heavy haul train, especially when the dynamic brake mode was adopted by the train on the curve track. Aimed to the derailment problem during dynamic braking, take the HXD2 locomotive for example to research the running safety of the heavy haul locomotive with the function of the longitudinal press force on coupler. The coupler anti-overturning mechanism of the LAF coupler and No. 13 coupler were compared. The coupler dynamic model in which coupler buffer character, coupler shoulder/position stop character were considered in detail was setup, and let it into the 10000t train model with the 4 HXD2 locomotives in series to traction. The locomotive dynamic performances of the HXD2 locomotive under the longitudinal press force on coupler with the two different coupler models were researched. There is a rigidly impact between the coupler and the coupler yoke of No. 13 coupler with the longitudinal press force as it hasn't the coupler shoulder settings. The coupler overturning was caused by the existing of the longitudinal press force on coupler; this leads the wheel/rail lateral force increased to balance the lateral force. Locomotive derailment will occur when the wheel/rail lateral force were exceed the limit value of criterion.
