Special Function Analysis Method of Dynamic Response of Rigid Pavement under Vehicle Load

Publication: International Conference on Transportation Engineering 2007

Abstract

In this paper, the contact shape between tire and pavement is simplified as a rectangle, the rigid pavement is treated as plate on elastic foundation, and the vehicle loads are considered as impact loads which are described by special function. The stress caused by the impact load spreads as space wave in the rigid pavement. The spread of vibration wave in the rigid pavement can be treated as an initial value problem of the wave equation and the three dimensional wave equation can be employed to solve this problem. Dynamic response of rigid pavement under impact loads was analyzed by Mathematical method and Mechanical method according to initial condition and boundary condition, and the movement, displacement and stress of any point in rigid pavement can be obtained by considering the material nature. At the same time, the time when stress gets peak value and the dissipation processes of the stress in rigid pavement also can be obtained. Furthermore, the effect of vehicle speed on stress of any point in rigid pavement can be obtained. In conclusion, the method presented in this paper is rational, simple and convenient for application.
