Abstract
Traffic data are important foundation of Intelligent Transport Systems. Fixed detectors such as loop detectors, microwave detectors, etc., can not satisfy the demand of Intelligent Transportation Systems, because of high cost and low coverage area. Along with widely used of GPS, GIS and wireless communication technology, floating-car system has become a new way to collect real-time traffic data. This paper describes the composing of floating-car system at first, then presents a two-step model for floating-car samples size, which overcoming disadvantages of existing researches. Finally, the application of floating-car system in Shanghai is introduced.
