Special Section on the International Conference on Pipelines and Trenchless Technology 2011 (ICPTT 2011)—Part 1

The International Conference on Pipelines and Trenchless Technology (ICPTT 2011) was held from October 26–29, 2011, at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing. It was cosponsored by the ASCE Pipeline Division, China–U.S. Joint Center for Trenchless Research and Development at the China University of Geosciences, Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) at the University of Texas at Arlington, Soil and Rock Drilling and Protecting Engineering Research Center of the China Ministry of Education, and Wuhan Deawon Trenchless Technology Company.

The conference received 635 abstract submissions, of which 291 excellent papers were finally accepted and presented at the conference, 272 papers were published in the proceedings, and the 19 best papers were selected and recommended to the Journal of Pipeline Systems Engineering and Practice. Eventually, 16 papers were accepted. Out of this, six papers are published in this special section, and the remaining papers will be published in a future issue.
