Sustainable Transportation Materials

Publication: Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering
Volume 32, Issue 1
The special collection on Sustainable Transportation Materials is available in the ASCE Library (https://ascelibrary.org/page/jmcee7/sustainable_transportation_materials).
Civil engineering materials play an important role in transportation infrastructure to provide economical and versatile solutions for many challenges. In recent years, new materials and applications have continued to emerge and they have remained an active research topic in transportation infrastructure.
This special collection, entitled “Sustainable Transportation Materials,” contains 10 technical papers and two technical notes that present recent advances in transportation materials and their applications in transportation infrastructure. These technical papers and notes cover cementitious, bituminous, and geomaterials, primarily for pavement applications.
This special collection was compiled based on the technical papers presented at the Second International Conference on Transportation Infrastructure and Materials held in Qingdao, China from June 9 to 12, 2017. This conference was jointly organized by Qingdao University of Technology and International Association of Chinese Infrastructure Professionals (IACIP) and attracted more than 200 attendees from nine different countries including China and the US. With the focus on the latest advances in research and practice of transportation infrastructure and materials, this conference received approximately 150 papers. Authors of 16 papers were invited to contribute to this special collection based on the review results of their conference papers and/or the track records of their research work and publications. Authors significantly improved and expanded their conference papers by restructuring the papers and incorporating new unpublished results or prepared new manuscripts with unpublished data. All the submitted manuscripts underwent rigorous peer review as required for any technical paper or note submitted to this journal. Each manuscript was reviewed by at least two experts of that topic to provide in-depth comments and suggestions. The authors addressed all the review comments to the satisfaction of the reviewers and/or the guest editors.
The guest editors greatly appreciate the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, Professor Antonio Nanni, and the Section Editor, Professor Louay N. Mohammad, for providing the opportunity and their instructions for this special collection. The guest editors also wish to thank the anonymous reviewers who have done an excellent job by providing rigorous and constructive reviews of all the manuscripts for this special collection.
