Relocation Assistance Programs
Publication: Engineering Issues: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 99, Issue 1
Abstract
The broad concept of Relocation Assistance, which includes relocation advisory assistance and relocation benefits, was conceived in the 1940s in connection with urban renewal projects. Relocation assistance as we know it today is far different from those early beginnings. There has been a lot of concern expressed over the effect the National Environmental Policies Act has on construction projects; however, we think time will show that construction projects in the future will be delayed just as much or even more by the so called public interest attorneys filing suits alleging noncompliance with the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisitions Act of 1970. Accordingly, check your program carefully to be sure it complies not only with the law but with the intent of the law.
