Abstract
The Homestake Collection System Pipelines and Intakes were built in rugged terrain which has a short construction season. The contractor chose to use steel pipe for this pipeline, which varies in size from 21-in. to 96-in. The design criteria for the steel pipe are presented in detail. The design details of the diversion dams, constructed of native materials, and designed to be overtopped are presented. The intakes and measuring flume structures are cast-in-place, reinforced concrete structures. The contractor's operations were governed by the short construction season and by the difficulty of access along the Collection System Pipelines.
