Abstract
The ease of information exchange within a project organization can have a significant effect on construction productivity. Management designed communications systems tend to be slow and often transient with incomplete and censured information. More sensitive and faster systems operate on an informal basis if conditions are right, and tend to promote a productive environment. Hidden communications often thwart management's efforts, although they have the potential of reinforcing management. Three types of communication are discussed, together with the need for a formal feedback system to keep management aware of job problems.
