ASCE Engineering Management Continuing Education Program: An Overview
Publication: Issues in Engineering: Journal of Professional Activities
Volume 106, Issue 2
Abstract
An overview is given of ASCE's continuing education program specifically on the subject of engineering management. The overview is limited primarly to live course offerings of one to three days. Events leading to the number of current management course offerings are outlined relative to the Society's expanded education and management activities through the 1960's and 1970's and to the growth of its Management Division. Data on management course offerings and attendance between 1973 and 1979 is provided. General background and characteristics are discussed. Pertinent data from the 1976 ASCE Survey of the Profession is also presented to give an indication of the memberships interest in and involvement in engineering management. A correlation between the memberships professional requirements, educational background and need for developing management skills is suggested and possible future trends in growth and delivery systems are discussed.
