In Table 2, the auto-correlation function for the spherical model was erroneous. The correct version is
ρ(τ)={198|τθ|+27128|τθ|3,if  |τ|43θ0,otherwise
Table 2. Common autocorrelation models and their frequency of usage in Table S1
Autocorrelation modelCorrelation as a function of lag, τνFrequency of usage (%)
Markovian (single exponential)ρ(τ)=exp{2|τ|θ}0.547
Second-order Markovρ(τ)=(1+4|τ|θ)exp{4|τ|θ}1.54
Third-order Markovρ(τ)=(1+163|τ|θ+25627(|τ|θ)2)exp{163|τ|θ}2.5New to geotechnical practice
Gaussian (squared exponential)ρ(τ)=exp{π(|τ|θ)2}15
Sphericalρ(τ)={198|τ|θ+27128(|τ|θ)3,if  |τ|43θ;0,otherwise9
Cosine exponentialρ(τ)=exp{|τ|θ}cos{|τ|θ}10
Binary noiseρ(τ)={1|τ|/θ,if  |τ|θ0,otherwise15

Note: θ = scale of fluctuation; and ν = smoothness parameter that reduces the Whittle-Matérn model to a specific one-parameter autocorrelation model (e.g., ν=0.5 produces the Markovian exponential model). Model name “third-order Markov” is coined by this paper.

The correct Table 2 is provided herein.
To preserve the published version of record, these details have been corrected only in this erratum.
