Enhancing Construction Project Performance by Organizational Citizenship Behavior: The Mediating Role of Horizontal Coordination and Moderating Role of Behavioral Perception

ABSTRACT

This study aims to reveal the effects of the five dimensions of organizational citizenship behavior (i.e., helping behavior, organizational loyalty, interpersonal relationship, individual initiative, and civic virtue) on the performance of construction projects through the mediating role of horizontal coordination and moderating role of behavioral perception. The structural equation model was applied to analyze the data collected from 287 valid questionnaires. The findings showed that organizational citizenship behavior could improve the performance of construction projects through enhancing horizontal coordination. This implies that strengthening horizontal coordination among participants would improve the performance of construction projects. Additionally, behavioral perception positively moderates the relationship between organizational citizenship behavior and horizontal coordination. The higher the level of behavioral perception, the more effective it is for organizational citizenship behavior to promote the performance of construction projects. This study can provide practical guidance for how to better manage organizational citizenship behavior to promote the performance of construction projects.
