Code Welding Details for Mitered Elbows

ABSTRACT

Code-compliant welding details may not be well understood by the engineering community and are often left up to pipe fabricators and welders. Engineering awareness of welding details, including code welding geometry, can contribute to the success of water industry projects. This paper will address code welding details required for mitered elbow compliance, including example calculations of welding bevels. In addition, a chart will be provided, which details bevel versus rotation angle for mitered elbows with 60° single V-Groove welds for various miter deflection angles from 1° to 60°. This chart will eliminate complex calculations, making code compliance easier for welders.
