ABSTRACT
As a tool to describe the traffic operation characteristics of road networks from a macro perspective, the macroscopic fundamental diagram (MFD) is an important reference for various traffic planning and management. To study the influence of road network characteristics on MFD, three road networks in Guangzhou are selected in this paper. Characteristic parameters of three road networks are obtained, and the data of traffic operation status derived from simulation experiments are used for the establishment of MFD. The simulation results reveal that the characteristic indicators of the three MFDs may be related to the characteristic parameters of the road network. The differences in the characteristic parameters of each road network lead to the differences in the characteristic indicators of the three MFDs. The research results of this paper can provide support for optimizing road network layout and road network planning.
