Optimal Design of Intersection Signal Control Based on VISSIM Simulation

ABSTRACT

With the development of the economy, the surge in the number of cars affects the traffic operation characteristics of vehicles at intersections and reduces road network capacity. The reason is that the signal timing of the intersection has a low adaptability to the number of vehicles. In this paper, an intersection signal timing optimization model is constructed, in which the intersection is used as the signal timing optimization control unit, and the car travel delay, parking times, exhaust emissions, etc., in the control unit are optimized control objectives. VISSIM is used to build simulation model. An example analysis is carried out at the intersection of Huanghai Avenue and Tongyu Road in Nantong city. The results show that the optimized signal timing scheme can reduce the travel delay of cars and improve the traffic efficiency of the intersection.
