ABSTRACT
The right-turning vehicles do not yield to pedestrians, which is an important cause of collision between right-turning vehicles and pedestrians. Existing researches only studies the impact of factors on the yield intention of right-turning vehicles, but does not quantify the yield intention, so the degree of impact of factors on the yield intention of right-turning vehicles is unknown. In order to find out the factors that affect the degree of yield intention of right-turning vehicles and pedestrians at two-phase signalized intersections, we propose a yielding intention model based on multivariate ordered logistic mathematical model. The paper’s steps include: (1) collect data; (2) develop multivariate ordered logistic model and factors odds ratio model; and (3) tackle and analyze model results. The model results show that factors including length of crosswalk, pedestrians age, pedestrians crossing location, scale of pedestrians, pedestrians speed, and right-turning vehicles speed increase the yield intention of right-turning vehicles yielding to pedestrians.
