Analysis of the Impact of Freeway Tunnels with Lighting on the Driving Behavior of Emergency Driving

To optimize accompanying lighting in freeway tunnels at low traffic volumes, based on the SILAB driving simulation platform, the driver’s driving behavior of recognizing a 10 cm × 10 cm gray obstacle in a straight section until stopping was designed under five-speed limits of 40 km/h, 60 km/h, 80 km/h, 100 km/h, 120 km/h, 1x, 2x, 4x, and 6x the length of the accompanying illumination. The driver found the distance of the obstacle, braking deceleration, and the distance to the object when stopping three indicators, using the survival analysis method to analyze the driver’s emergency driving behavior in full brightness and different illumination range. The results show that the length of the follow-on lighting is controlled by four times the stopping sight distance when the restricted speed is 100 km/h and above, and six times the stopping sight distance when the restricted speed is below 100 km/h.
