Statistical Analysis of Influential Factors of Traffic Accident Casualty Severity for Children

ABSTRACT

The revision of the children restraint system (CRS), part of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in 2014, reveals more attention was paid to the CRS. To dig into the influence of CRS on alleviating and decreasing injury of children in traffic accidents, 4,824 accident data involving children are selected from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) accident data. The accuracy of GBDT is 0.39 and was used to analyze the relationship between injury severity and lots of variables. Multi-variables analysis shows that the elasticity of misuse of CRS is the highest, follows is without using CRS and without using an airbag. Under speeding, the elasticities of without using CRS, misuse CRS, and without using airbags are highest when the vehicle years are average value, average value, and +3SD, probabilities of fatal injury are increased by 6.03, 8.75, and 2.58 times, respectively.
