Research on Opening Sequence of Service Area during Expressway Reconstruction and Expansion

ABSTRACT
As an important construction node during highway expansion, the opening sequence of the service area affects the operation level and construction progress. For a traffic and service areas characteristics during reconstruction and expansion, the cellular transmission model is used to simulate the vehicle updates of the road section. Flow rate, approach rate and service area level are used as input variables to construct the expansion service area service model and develop a corresponding simulation program. Orthogonal experiments are used and a series of simulation experiments are carried out. A guideline is then given for the opening sequence of the service area under different traffic conditions to meet the dual constraints of operation and construction. Results show that the guideline can better guarantee the service level while meeting the construction requirements, and can provide a certain reference basis for the implementation of service area traffic organization during highway reconstruction and expansion.
