A Review on Social Media Data for Social Transportation

Social media data, which contains a lot of traffic-related information, has gradually become a significant data source for transportation. The information describes and records the traffic conditions and events from multiple perspectives, which play an increasingly important role in solving traffic problems. This paper analyzes the characteristics of social transportation data and shows the processes and methods of data mining based on social media. It also categorizes social transportation data and summarizes analysis methods of social transportation data based on data types, and then summarizes the application of social media data in traffic information acquisition, traffic prediction, travel analysis, and public opinion analysis. Finally, the future work of applying social media data to social transportation is proposed based on previous research.
