Time-Space Optimization Design Method for Non-Motor Vehicles Crossing at Intersection

Publication: CICTP 2020

ABSTRACT

The urban intersection planning has been dominated by motor vehicles, and the characteristics of non-motorized traffic flow have not been fully considered, resulting in restrictions on the overall capacity of intersections. Taking typical four-phase signal-controlled intersections as the background, this paper elucidates the traffic time-space optimization design method suitable for non-motor vehicles crossing the intersection. Meanwhile, according to the characteristics of the left-turn non-motor vehicles crossing the intersection twice and the left-turn integration of motor vehicles and non-motor vehicles crossing the intersection, the application conditions of the two modes are determined by the split index and the effectiveness of the method is verified by means of simulation. The results obtained by the simulation and the judgment model are basically consistent. This research provides a theoretical basis and guidance for non-motor vehicles and motor vehicles to share road resources, reduce delays, and improve traffic efficiency at intersections.
