Applicability Assessment of One-Way Streets in Old Town of Small City: A Case Study of Shunde in China

ABSTRACT
The traffic demand for cars has increased while the traffic efficiency is low and the congestion during rush hours is serious in many old town areas of China. This paper takes the old town areas of Shunde district in Foshan City as examples and analyzes the applicability of the one-way streets in the old town areas. Firstly, the traffic characteristics of the old town areas in China are summarized. Secondly, the evaluation index system and method for one-way streets applicability are proposed. Thirdly, taking Lunjiao area of Shunde district as an example, the applicability analysis of the one-way street is carried out. Finally, the acceptance of the one-way streets of the citizens in the Lunjiao area and the factors affecting the acceptance are studied.
