A Traffic Event Simulation Method in a Virtual Traffic Environment

Publication: CICTP 2020

ABSTRACT

This paper presents a traffic event simulation model and its implementation method for a driving simulator. The trajectory and behavior of event objects are set up, then mapping the simulate vehicle object (the highest priority, calling it main vehicle to better description) and event objects (the higher priority) to the microscopic traffic simulation objects(the common priority, calling them AIs to better description) list by data binding, which provided the data basis to make the system become unified and real-time. The lower priority objects would adjust their motion and behavior according to the state (position, speed, acceleration, etc.) of the object with higher priority. After the main vehicle trigger the event, the traffic event is simulated as designed through the objects real–time interaction. This method has been applied in the traffic event simulation of driving simulator, and solved the problem that drivers lack experience in dealing with traffic incidents.
