Inter-Green Time Design Method of Signalized Intersection under Mixed Traffic Flow Condition

Publication: CICTP 2020

ABSTRACT

In order to guarantee the safety of urban intersection during the signal phase change intervals, on the basis of the analytical framework of the inter-green time analysis model, a typical four-phase signalized intersection was selected to analyze the key conflicts of mixed traffic flow under three representative channelization design patterns. The basic model and its boundary conditions of inter-green time corresponding to mixed traffic flow condition was established. Both the deterministic analytical model of inter-green time and the measured high-accuracy trajectory data obtained from UAV show that the safety signal phase transition interval is closely related to the characteristics of mixed traffic flow at the intersection and its channelization pattern. For the intersections with the same road grade, lane function, and red line width, the cycle-pedestrian shared design pattern requires the shortest inter-green time and has the highest traffic efficiency on the premise of ensuring safety.
