The Design of Optimal Parking Charges in the Presence of Carpooling

Abstract

Few studies focus on an understanding of how parking price plays a role in the carpooling process in a transportation network. The objective of this paper is to introduce a mathematical model to study the impacts of optimal parking pricing on carpooling and pave the way for the analysis of how people can be motivated to participate in carpooling, as well as the interactions of carpooling activities and congestion. The model and algorithms are applied to a numerical example to display the availability. Then, the characteristics of these problems are demonstrated. The results show that the parking price of a carpooling vehicle is not always lower than that of solo-driving vehicle. The optimal parking price is supposed to be designed in the consideration of the fares from the carpooling or e-hauling platform.
