Measuring Accessibility to Jobs for the Urban Poor—Case Study of Ahmedaba, India
Publication: CICTP 2019
Abstract
With rapid urbanization, accessibility to jobs for the urban poor is an issue of concern and this study explores accessibility to jobs from the SEWSH locations and potential accessibility to jobs from the whole city of Ahmedabad. Two scenarios, “only cycling” and “BRTS + cycling” for accessing jobs, were given as a part of the studio assignment and two accessibility methods were computed for both the scenarios. With the help of network analysis in ArcGIS, service areas (contour measure) and OD Matrix (potential measure) were computed and interpreted. Meanwhile, DCM technique was applied to the results of contour measure to find out which mode people prefer to use when their accessibility to jobs is known. It was discovered that AMTS is the most efficient transport mode compared to BRTS and BRTS is not an effective tool to address the job accessibility for the urban poor.
