ABSTRACT
In the fall of 2013, PECO Energy Corp. (formerly the Philadelphia Electric Company) presented an exciting challenge of developing a design for a 300-foot tall free-standing H-Frame structure required to support a 230 kV single circuit transmission line span crossing the Delaware River. While tall H-Frame structures can present some unusual and complex design considerations, they can become even more so when you add an intricate catwalk and fall protection system. This paper will describe the coordination and collaborative efforts needed to develop the design and details for a 300 ft tall river crossing structure. It will also provide some informative details on the design and fabrication process.
