ABSTRACT
Power delivery projects are a product of the progression of design choices that satisfy structural and electrical purposes, however this process typically lacks built-in steps for evaluating the visual characteristics of the results. This paper will establish the importance of addressing aesthetics systematically in overhead line design (OHL). Structural and line design engineers can integrate aesthetic practices and principles as a valuable part of the design process, without compromising the functional, safety, and economic goals of the project. The industry offers very little in terms of training and resources to equip engineers with principles for use in the aesthetics arena. The intention of this paper is to introduce aesthetic understanding and appreciation to engineers in the OHL industry.
