ABSTRACT
After investigating cost savings, risk reduction, and design optimization, the project team has decided to utilize alternative foundation designs on their transmission line project. Now what? This paper will discuss the approach that was taken by the ATC Bay Lake project team to incorporate steel vibratory caisson foundations into the project plan. The paper will highlight the reasons for choosing this specific alternative foundation, the considerations for design and construction, testing and pre-work investigations, and the methods of communicating project decisions and progress among all stakeholders. The paper will incorporate considerations and lessons from the planning, design, and execution phases of a major transmission project.
