Experimental Study on Dynamic Characteristics and Associated Influencing Factors of Saturated Sand

Publication: Transportation Research Congress 2016: Innovations in Transportation Research Infrastructure

ABSTRACT

Sand liquefaction is affected by many factors. In order to investigate the dynamic characteristics of saturated sand and the influence of the dry density on liquefaction, DDS-70 microcomputer-controlled electromagnetic vibration triaxial testing system was used in this study. The liquefaction strength of saturated sand determined was conducted using this system. Through the curve fitting results between the liquefaction shear stress of saturated sand and vibration frequency, it shows that the power function fitting has good correlation. A number of dynamic triaxial tests on saturated sand of different dry density are also analyzed; the influence of dry density on the dynamic strength characteristics of saturated sand are discussed. It is found that the power function model parameters have a strong correlation with the dry density, which increases gradually as the dry density increases. The model parameter b is in the range between -0.20~0.00.
