Steel Structure Construction Industrialization in China: Literature Review and Future Direction

Abstract
Due to the advantages of high industrialization, short construction period, energy saving and environmental protection, good seismic performance, significant economic benefits, and ease steel overcapacity, the steel structure construction has invoked strong attention from industries and governmental departments. This paper reviewed the literature related to steel structure construction industrialization from 2010 to 2017 in the CNKI database. Through the theme retrieval of “steel structure construction.” “construction industry,” “construction industry modernization,” and “construction industrialization,” the authors got 325 related research papers and theses. Moreover, relevant policies documents related to “ease overcapacity,” “green building,” “construction industrialization,” and “steel structure construction industrialization” were also collected and summarized. With the systematic literature review, the study identified factors of steel construction industrialization into four categories (i.e., environmental sub-system, policy sub-system, technology sub-system, and organizational sub-system). Meanwhile, mechanism of steel structure construction industrialization were given according to the key points of steel structure industrialization policies that clear development goals, implement main tasks, improve policy support, strengthen safeguard measures to promote the sustained and healthy development of steel construction industry.
