ABSTRACT
During the last two decades, the Port Authority has developed an enormous work of design and construction to expand its facilities and develop a new basin in Punta Langosteira. In 2011, it was completed the construction of the main breakwater, 3.35 km long, exposed to the harshest design conditions, Hs[m]=15.1 and Tp[yr]=140. The Port sheltering was completed during the years 2013 and 2014 by the Port Authority of A Coruña with the collaboration of GEAMA group from the University of A Coruña, developing the design of the secondary breakwater of the port. The works are under construction, with the completion planned in 2016.The aim of the paper is to present the design procedure to analyze and reflect on critical issues, in addition, present the potentialities of probabilistic methods applied to rubble-mound breakwater design.
